Is the curfew still in place?
Yes- now and until further notice, the City is operating under a curfew for all residents and visitors effective from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
What is the downtown restricted zone?
Until further notice, access in the Central Business District and Loop area will only be given to employees whose businesses are located within the designated boundaries and individuals who reside in the surrounding area and are engaged in essential activities as defined in the Municipal Code, Order 2020-3 (listed here under Section 2.5). The boundaries of the restricted zone are as follows:
Division Street from Lake Shore Drive to Halsted Street
Halsted Street from Division Street to Milwaukee/Grand Avenue
Milwaukee Avenue from Grand Avenue to Kinzie Street
Canal Street from Kinzie Street to Cermak Road
26th Street from State Street to Lake Shore Drive
Cermak Road from Canal Street to State Street
State Street from Cermak Road to 26th Street

“Paint the City” project creating free murals for business owners
Barrett Keithley and Missy Perkins are offering assistance to business owners with boarded up buildings. Through their project “Paint the City” the two have enlisted artists to create murals on storefronts and the services are offered free of charge.
Paint the City, an artist led coalition founded by artist Barrett Keithley and partner Missy Perkins. To date 75 artists are participating. An artist-led volunteer initiative to cover unsightly plywood board with uplifting and inspiring murals. Artist’s labor is provided free of charge. Any donations from businesses are used to purchase supplies and offer stipends to the volunteer artist.
“Paint the City” is open to business owners across the city with an emphasis on the City’s South and West sides. Business owners may email Missygem13@gmail.com about their interest in having a mural created at their business. The team will meet to discuss what the owner would like to have painted. Owners can make suggestions on the art or let allow the team to use their artistic discretion. Work on murals will begin right away.
While we may be at home, our hearts are with our community. Bennett Day School has created a collaborative art installation outside the school’s playground to remind the community that we’re all in this together. This month, students and families were mailed wooden hearts as an invitation to contribute to the installation, pulling creative minds together to create a colorful installation for the whole community to enjoy.
