Response Continues Following Two Nursery Shipment Incidents
State and county agricultural officials continue response efforts following recent detections of glassy-winged sharpshooter (GWSS) on plants sold through Costco.
The original grapevine response remains active, with counties contacting customers, inspecting plants and continuing trapping through September.
Officials are also responding to a separate incident involving desert willow plants shipped from Texas to Costco stores in California. GWSS egg masses were found in some of the shipments. The desert willows had been shipped to 68 stores in 21 counties, and CDFA is aware of 376 desert willows sold in 18 possible counties. Officials are working to locate affected plants.
So far, officials have found no evidence that GWSS has spread into the surrounding environment. Continued monitoring remains important because it can take multiple seasons to determine whether GWSS has become established in a new area.
