Rapid Response to New Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter Infestation in Solano County

On October 1, a total of five glassy-winged sharpshooters (GWSS) were found on two different traps in a residential part of Vacaville in Solano County. A delimitation survey started the following day and GWSS were discovered at several more sites near the initial finds. Delimitation surveys consist of high-density trapping and visual inspections of preferred host plants in the area to determine the boundaries of an infestation. The Solano County Agricultural Commissioner’s office and the Pierce’s Disease Control Program are working together on the next steps for this new infestation.
Mark your calendar for the 2021 Pierce’s Disease Research Symposium being held virtually December 14 – 15, 2021.

Join leading researchers and winegrape growers in learning about recent advances and discoveries for PD, the glassy-winged sharpshooter, and other designated pests and diseases of winegrapes. The free two-day program will include research talks, grower presentations, and roundtable discussions.

Stay tuned for registration information.
