A Note About Customer Service

Rapido has long prided itself on having the best customer service in the industry. We've built a solid reputation over the years by responding to our customers' needs in an expedient manner, and frankly, we've been letting you down lately. As such, we sincerely apologize for these delays you may have been experiencing when reaching out to us. Recently, we’ve encountered significant technical difficulties, which, combined with a surge in emails and calls, have left us overwhelmed and unable to respond as promptly as we’d like. The "why" is our problem, however, not yours.

Please know that we are taking this situation very seriously. To address these challenges and make things right again, we have actively hired additional staff for our Warranty and Operations teams and are also reviewing and fixing our internal processes to ensure smoother communication and more timely responses moving forward.

Your patience and understanding mean so much to us, and we are committed to getting back on track as quickly as possible. Thank you for bearing with us during this time. You can, of course, still reach out to us through our Warranty form for help or Customer Service for assistance with Products and Orders. We will do our utmost best to help resolve any outstanding issues and respond to any feedback regarding our service.

Thank you again for your patience.

Rapido BN C30-7

HO Scale Burlington Northern C30-7 Factory Paint Error

The excitement for the HO Scale C30-7 Locomotive arrival is in full swing, but upon us inspecting each roadname, we found a major flaw on the Burlington Northern units. The factory painted the top of the anticlimber Cascade Green instead of black. Our artwork was correct... and even the first samples from the factory were correct. Apparently the QC manager was seriously partying before these parts went through the paint shop.

To fix this error we are sending the BN locomotives back to the factory to be corrected. We're sending them by air, so we're hoping we can get them back before Chinese New Year at the end of January. If there are any customs holdups, it may be March before they are back here.

Please bear with us, as we know this unfortunately puts a damper on the excitement of the C30-7 arrival. We are still very much committed to producing excellent models that we can be proud of and that you can be proud of too.

NEW! THE SLIGHTLY-LESS-PREMIUM MYSTERY BOX!

We heard the call for a more affordable mystery box and we have your answer! This year we are also offering a "slightly less premium" mystery box along with our usual offering. In this box, you are guaranteed a DC/Silent HO scale locomotive, at least one other piece of HO scale equipment, a Rapido Christmas ornament, Rapido's delicious sea salt dark chocolate, and the possibility of other Rapido goodies like usual! We promise that whatever you get, it will still be worth WAY MORE than the purchase price.

Please keep in mind that many of our DC locomotives come equipped with a factory-installed speaker to be converted for DCC use (all you need is a decoder).

Definitely take a chance and order your Christmas Mystery Box today for yourself or the modeler in your life today! Order by December 16th or until supplies last (and they're going really fast!).

It was more important for us to get our factories to deliver our latest models so we did not ask them for decorated samples for our new E8 production run. If you have not seen Rapido's E-Units models in person, please have a look at the photos below. This is from our most recently delivered E8 production run.

The new run of E8 and E9 locomotives will have a similar level of quality, finish and detail.

HO Scale SW9 Locomotive

Hello SW9 Locomotive fans! Now that we have our first pre-production samples in hand, it's time to announce the final order deadline of January 15, 2025.

Now, let's get right to the samples! Remember, these are still early and many details will be subject to refinement for production. We'll start it off with the never before in plastic Santa Fe version. Check out all of that detail, including the cloth above the windshields and those ATSF-specific louvers and exhaust screens.

Rapido SW9

The ATSF still have some tooling adjustments to be made, but these are looking fabulous!

Look at all those louvers!

Rapido SW9

EMD's SW9 series was a popular yard and light duty switcher locomotive that many class one and shortlines purchased between 1950 and 1953. With over 800 examples built in the United States and Canada, these locomotives were a common sight on the rails for decades. Many still exist today.

Need more roadname-specific info? Check out the HO Scale SW9 page for features of each road. Each scheme we are offering has detail variations, making these switchers the most detailed as possible!

Rapido GP9u Slug

The New York Central (above) and the Canadian Pacific (below) versions.

Rapido CP SW9

NEW! HO Scale CP GP9u and GP9u + Slug Sets

WILD INFO! The HO Scale Canadian Pacific GP9u and GP9u + Slug Set now has an order deadline for January 15, 2025! CP's GP9u formed the backbone of their yard and road switcher fleet for many decades, from the 1980s right into the 2010s. Just like the prototypes, our GP9u locomotives replicate all of the details right down to roadnumber-specific mother and slug sets.

Rapido GP9u Slug

The 3D decorated render shows off what they'll look like with paint!

CP sourced their slug cores from their retired SW8, SW900 and SW1200RS fleet. As such, each Rapido mother and slug set comes with a roadnumber-specific pairing, as CP generally kept the sets together until retirement.

Want to know more about the history of these neat rebuilds and slugs? Find out more when you read the GP9u Masterclass.
