HO Scale CF7 Locomotive
The HO Scale CF7 Locomotive production is well under way! In the meantime, we're excited to launch two excellent freelance schemes for this unique engine: Alabama Central and Farlin Terminal. Let's take a quick look at each road.
| The CF7 Locomotive is a perfect match for the Alabama Central’s operational DNA. As a shortline built on reclaimed trackage and rebuilt locomotives, the ACRR naturally gravitates toward rugged, economical power with a second life. The CF7’s Santa Fe heritage, Cleburne‑shop rebuild pedigree, and proven reliability on shortlines across the country make it an ideal choice for locals, industrial switching, and the daily grind of serving Prattville’s manufacturing base. | |
This Colorful CF7 is the perfect locomotive for a railroad like the Farlin Terminal — tough, rebuildable, and endlessly adaptable. After decades of hard service on the Santa Fe, these units found second lives on shortlines that needed reliable power without the cost of new locomotives. For a ten‑mile branch with tight curves, industrial trackage, and a mix of agricultural and manufacturing customers, the CF7’s compact footprint and rugged construction make it an ideal fit.
Reserve these now! We have limited quantities of these CF7s as they are in production now! You can do so from your local hobby shop or directly through us.

HO Scale GP38 Locomotive
Freelance GP38 Locomotives? Yes, please! This month we have two fantastic schemes to debut: Copper State and Natchez Trace & Orient.
| The Copper State GP38 captures this copper‑country character with crisp paint, road‑specific details, and subtle nods to desert service. CSR 328, 331, and 336 each represent a different era of the railroad’s evolution — from early Phoenix switching, to post‑independence system roaming, to the high‑elevation expansion that reshaped CSR’s identity. Together, they embody the spirit of a railroad whose purpose has always been clear: keep Arizona’s copper moving. | |
The Natchez Trace & Orient GP38 captures this identity with crisp NT&O Tedder Green and white paint, road‑specific details, and the subtle cues of a locomotive that worked hard but was cared for. NTO 317, 324, and 330 each represent a different facet of the Meridian Speedway story — from Mississippi locals feeding the mills, to system‑roaming transfers tying the network together, to long desert runs pushing the railroad toward Mexico. Together, they embody the vitality of a regional railroad built on industry, interchange, and the enduring rhythm of Southern railroading.
Reserve these now! We have limited quantities of these GP38s as they are in production now! You can do so from your local hobby shop or directly through us.

HO Scale RS-23 Locomotive
Wait, we're not done...yet! The HO Scale MLW RS-23 Locomotive features FOUR freelance schemes on this announcement. They are: Arkansas Valley, Kara Terminal, Splitrock Mining and West Falls. Each scheme has its own unique and colorful scheme. Let's take a look at each below.
| The Arkansas Valley 410 and 413 captures this exciting chapter in Arkansas Valley history with crisp blue‑and‑white paint, clean lines, and the purposeful stance of locomotives acquired through necessity and perfect timing. Distinctive, believable, and rooted in real‑world logic, these RS‑23s embody the character that makes the Arkansas Valley such a compelling regional railroad. | Kara Terminal's RS-23 Locomotives have clean lines, crisp lettering, and the purposeful, work‑ready stance that defines the Kara Terminal Railway. For modelers who appreciate believable freelance railroading, urban‑industrial operations, or simply want locomotives that feel like they’ve earned every mile, the KTRY RS‑23s embody the spirit of a railroad that never stops moving. | Finished in Splitrock’s distinctive yellow scheme, the RS-23 Locomotives reflect the purposeful stance of locomotives built for industrial survival rather than mainline glory. Crisp lettering, accurate details, and a work‑ready presence place them squarely in the Splitrock ecosystem — small engines with outsized importance in a railroad defined by horsepower, harsh weather, and the relentless movement of iron ore. | |
Rounding out the RS-23 Freelance Schemes are the very attractive West Falls locomotives. They feature an eye-catching orange and black scheme. This road runs in the northeast, mainly in upstate New York and parts of New England. Their identity is shaped by geography and opportunity: first by its interchange with the Rutland at Ogdensburg, then by inheriting the Vermont trackage after the Rutland’s shutdown, and later by the dramatic reshaping of northeastern railroading in the 1980s. The RS-23s fully capture the feeling of a gritty, hardworking regional road.
Reserve these now! We have limited quantities of these RS-23s as they are also in production now! You can do so from your local hobby shop or directly through us.

HO Scale U25B and Early U28B Locomotive
The U25B and the Early U28B Locomotives will close out on March 16th. This is just a few days away, which means we have a new video for you to watch!
Click here or the photo above to watch.
| |
In January, we added three new HO Scale U25B Locomotive schemes: Great Northern Big Sky Blue, Southern Pacific 1965 Renumbers, New York Central and Rock Island without the frog lights.
The Great Northern Historical Society is also doing an exclusive run of Great Northern's Phase IV U25B in simplified orange and green with the correct "five-step" stepwell.
| The Rock Island and the L&N version. | Frog lights! Also note the bell behind the cab and the dual front windshields. | Don't forget, the HO Scale U25B Locomotive has undergone MAJOR refinements! Some of the biggest are the roof contours, the super fine handrails and the radiator fan grilles. Check out the photos, below. | |
Those roof contours look exceptional.
Below, you can see the new radiator fan housing.
| |
The Rapido U25B and early U28B Locomotives feature:
- Improved mesh grilles to be finer in appearance
- Revised exhaust stack (seen above)
- Newly tooled, thinner end handrails
- Rapido’s innovative dead-straight metal handrails with plastic stanchions on the new phase 3 and 4 designs
- Working step lights
- Revised AAR truck with separate leaf springs and spinning bearings (where appropriate)
- Improved front numberboard housing
- New Phase IV units representing late U25Bs and early U28Bs
- Working "frog lights" (Rock Island and MEC #225 and #228)
- BN with five-step stepwell
- Working SP light package
- Single front window or new double front window
- Both low and high-short hood versions
- Flat or new sloped low nose
- New side sill mounted handrails on Phase IV units
- Early high- and later low-style side doors
- Operating class lights in the correct locations
- Road specific details for each model
- Different exhaust stacks (depending on roadname)
- Road-specific battery box doors on engineer’s side
- MoPower capacitor for uninterrupted DCC power
- Suggested minimum radius: 18"
The newest additions lead off the paint schemes below.
| Hurry up and get those orders in before March 16! You can do so by ordering from your favorite hobby shop or directly through us. | | |
HO Scale Halliburton Pneumatic Rail Car
The HO Scale Halliburton Pneumatic Rail Cars will close out on March 16th. With the order deadline being just a few days away, we also have a new video for you to watch. Click here or the photo above.
Honestly, even if you don't give a flying fadoo about the Halliburton cement car, you should watch this video. It's really, really funny. For some reason Jason does not want anyone to order this model. Share it with all your friends and relations!
| Outside in the sun, these cars look amazing! | Look at the amazing tank, piping and etched-metal walkway details. | |
The underframe of the car might look better than the top and sides!
Check out the tanks and the openings.
| |
The HO Scale Halliburton Pneumatic Rail Cars feature:
- Tooled from original blueprints and measurements
- Full underbody details and piping
- Separate metal grab irons
- Stainless steel metal roofwalk
- Semi-scale metal knuckle couplers
- Free-rolling trucks with profiled metal wheelsets
- Available as single car or six-packs
- Suggested minimum radius: 18”
Check out the scheme variations for this unique car.
| Order the Halliburton railcars from your favorite hobby shop or directly through us. Make sure you do before March 16th! | | |
N Scale Budd RDC-2 and RDC-3 Railcars
The N Scale Budd RDC-2 and RDC-3 Railcars close out in just a few days on March 16th! We have a new video for you to check out.
Click here or the photo above to watch. Remember, this is the first time the Phase 2 RDC-2 and RDC-3 have EVER been produced in N scale plastic!
| Note: The factory painted these with whatever silver paint they had on hand. The end doors are from our recent RDC-1 production run and show our proper stainless steel finish. | |
The neat N Scale Budd RDC-2 and RDC-3 Railcars will be produced in both Phase 1 and 2 variations. These “railfan” terms were never actually used by Budd, but they did describe the major differences between the early style of RDCs.
And another reason to grab a bunch of the RDC-2s and -3s...many railroads only had or used these rail cars. In fact, they took advantage of the extra room for baggage or even mail/package delivery. Some roads also bundled the RDC-2s and -3s with their RDC-1s.
| Just like the N scale RDC-1s, the RDC-2 and RDC-3 feature the same level of details, both on the roof, inside the car and of course the underbody! | |
The Rapido N Scale Budd RDC-2 and RDC-3s feature:
- Designed from original blueprints and 3D scans!
- Accurate RDC-2 and RDC-3, Phase 1 and Phase 2 body details
- Either fabricated or cast trucks, as appropriate
- Single-motor, all-wheel drive for unparalleled reliability
- All-wheel electrical pickup
- Directional headlights and red marker lights
- LED interior lighting
- Tinted windows and fully detailed interiors
- MoPower capacitor system for uninterrupted DCC power
- DC/Silent (DCC Ready) or DC/DCC/Sound (ESU LokSound)
- Suggested minimum radius: 12"
Here are the paint schemes for the N Scale Budd RDC. (There's a LOT!)
| Order the N scale Budd RDC-2 and RDC-3 Railcars now! You can do that from your favorite/favourite hobby shop or directly through us. | | |

NEW EXCLUSIVE: NHRHTA FL9 New Haven Haas Repaints
The New Haven Railroad Historical and Techincal Association is offering a run of "Haas repaints" of the HO Scale FL9 Locomotives. These differ from the normal New Haven FL9s in that they do not have the extra serif on the "N" of the nose NH logo, use NH Serial #409 red-orange paint, the grabs are also painted #409 red-orange and the area just above the side grilles are black (instead of the white stripe).
At least 14 different FL9s were painted this way and there will be two roadnumbers (2006 and 2010) in this exclusive offer. Below we have the art for these neat FL9s.
| | You can order the "Haas repaint" FL9 Locomotives directly from the NHRHTA. Click the button below head over to their order form. | | |
Preserving a Piece of Transit History: Rapido's CLRV Fleet
The Rapido Canadian Light Rail Vehicle (CLRV) is an iconic symbol of urban transit heritage in Canada. Built in the late 1970s and early 1980s, these classic streetcars served faithfully on busy city streets for decades, connecting communities and shaping daily life for thousands of riders. Today, a number of these historic vehicles remain preserved in museums and heritage collections, but many still need care, restoration, and ongoing support to ensure they survive for future generations.
The following CLRV cars are preserved in prominent museums, including:
- The Illinois Railway Museum houses #4034, which is the Late TTC scheme, still available for preorder. You can support the Illinois Railway Museum here.
-
Halton County Radial Railway (HCRR) has three of the cars we have up for preorder — #4003, #4010, and #4039, but is also home to #4178. You can support HCRR here.
Your donations are a valuable asset that ensure these classic streetcars don’t just sit in storage, but are actively preserved, restored, and shared with enthusiasts, students, and the transit-curious for years to come.

Rapido is Hiring — TWO Technical Artists and a Warranty Person
Rapido is looking for TWO full-time artwork people to join our ever-growing team!
The perfect candidate will have a strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and experience doing artworks for trains; things that are train-ish like buses; or other forms of transportation that require artwork more complicated than those two tiny stripes on a 1985 Oldsmobile 98.
- Create railroad prototype artwork based on photos and research.
- Be willing to do artwork for projects you care nothing about. We are not making an RSC-24 locomotive. Stop asking. You have to draw this 1980s boxcar art instead.
- Work with the Project Managers to gather prototype information so that artwork is as accurate as possible.
- Able to communicate with and understand industry language. That is a “truck.” This is a “coupler.” If you think we’re talking about road haulage and plumbing, you probably shouldn’t apply. It will take way too long to train you and we’re hiring you because we’re really busy.
- Work with flattened line art files from designers to create artwork templates
- Be able to travel to Canada (if you're not already here)
- Following on from that, you must be able to shower regularly so you don’t stink up the place when you visit. If you have a problem with this, don’t apply.
- Be able to think 3-dimensionally while working in a 2D environment
- Be able to think 1-dimensionally while working in a 0D environment
- Be able to read and interpret exploded parts diagrams
- Open to artwork criticism and be able to efficiently implement changes
- Not be a primadonna. If one fellow Rapido employee tells you the font is too thick, you can be skeptical. If two Rapido employees tell you the font is too thick, you should consider changing it. By the time three Rapido employees have told you to stop arguing and fix the farkachte font, you’ve been fired already.
- Understand that matching prototype imagery is the main focus of the art that Rapido needs. The shade of orange you chose may be “more beautiful,” but it is still wrong.
- Provide creative options for other Rapido-related needs when requested.
- Create and adhere to artwork standards and templates set by Rapido Trains
- Be able to work to deadlines. This is actually very important and if you’re really good at it you can teach the rest of us how to do it.
- Work on page layouts such as user manuals and instruction sheets.
- Be able to create, edit and work with PDF files
- One of the above points is not physically possible. If you didn’t realize that, don’t apply.
Required Skills:
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite is a strong preference
- Must be an expert in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign
- Adobe Photoshop skills are a plus
- Must work on multiple, on-going projects at the same time with the ability to prioritize the workload
- Must be organized and detail oriented
- Must not be a swordfish
| | |
We're Hiring - Warranty Repair Technician
We are still looking for a full-time warranty technician to work here at our Markham office fixing model trains and helping customers. Our warranty return rate is between 1% and 2%, but even that represents hundreds of models a year and we're always busy. Required skills include:
- Must be good at taking apart, repairing and putting together model trains. When you’ve finishing putting the model train back together, it should look like a model train and not a model-train-shaped omelette.
- Must have an understanding of model railroad electronics and be skilled with a soldering iron. Knowledge and understanding of DCC is a huge asset. Massive. Even better if it's for ESU decoders and LokProgrammer.
- Must be a good communicator, written and oral, and be able to reply to customer emails daily. English, French, Spanish and Klingon are all useful. qab qechvetlh.
- Must be well organized and able to follow instructions precisely
- Must be willing to tackle other tasks as required: warehousy type box moving, preparing and packing show samples, parts sorting, processing 100s of replacement parts to send out to customers when we got things wrong (very rarely of course!) and polishing our “Super Continental” sign from Vancouver Station
- Must be comfortable with MS Office and be able to learn other software on a computing device. Experience with Atari 2600, Commodore 64 or Colecovision will impress us greatly, but won't help your application.
- Must be able to politely interrupt a customer to get off the phone when the customer wants to spend two hours talking about their railfanning adventures in 1958.
- Must have the patience of Job (this has nothing to do with our customers and everything to do with working for Jason).
- Must be able to work Monday through Friday at our Markham, Ontario office. Markham is not a neighborhood in Ontario, California. Markham is in the far north of the planet where everyone drinks maple syrup and wears earmuffs all year 'round.
By law, we must give preference to applications from hoseheads. We also give preference to people who know how to spell, know the difference between "there" and "their", and don't ever say "Me and him went to the store." Knowledge of appropriate apostrophe usage is also a must. Considering that most Rapido employees fail four of those last five points, we’re actually not so picky.
We look forward to hearing from you! qapla’!
If interested please send your resume and cover letter to trains@rapidotrains.com.
