If you are using a web-based email service such as Gmail, be sure to click on the link at the top of this email that says something like "[Message clipped] View entire message". That will ensure you don't miss any of this newsletter.

Please note that all renders, pre-production samples and artwork are subject to change before the final product release.

Before we get into today’s newsletter, we need to acknowledge one of the most terrible events in human history. Twenty-five years ago today, 2,977 lives were needlessly lost in New York City, Arlington County, Virgina and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Countless more have had their lives permanently altered, and lost whether directly due to the events of the day or an extension of this terrible event. Many still live with both the physical and psychological scars to this day.

While it was an attack on the United States, the whole world changed that day. Those of us in Canada shared in the shock and horror of the day’s events. Our two nations share a special relationship, and while we may occasionally have our challenges, the bond we have can never be broken.

Two extremes of human nature were on full display on September 11, 2001. One brought pain, the other brought hope. We’d like to remember those who were lost, but also thank those who gave everything they had to help others during the chaos.

Never forget.

Rapido GP40

HO Scale GP40 Locomotive

Earlier this year, our popular GP40 Locomotives returned with much fanfare with a new release. On this run we have the much-requested Late Phase II version. You don't have long to guarantee your preorder of your favorite GP40s. So make sure to order yours by September 15th.

Click here or the photo above to watch the video.

Rapido GP40

Note the hood-mounted bell and the ribbed blower duct, all features of the later phase GP40s!

This 3D CAD render has it all!

Rapido GP40

In this run we have many neat scheme variations, including the ex-Milwaukee Road versions SOO Line patched out in the late 1980s. The SOO rolled black paint over any Milwaukee markings but this paint faded — quickly and badly. These so-called "bandit" scheme GP40s carried all sorts of character in their orange and faded black patches. A handful of these GP40s survived, patchouts and all, into the late-2010s!

Rapido GP40

Some might call it ugly, we prefer to call it art.

The bandits look great with all of their unique patches.

Hey modern fans, we are also offering Kansas City Southern's modern GP40-3 with variations which include the PTC antennas and more! Many of these GP40s came from a wide variety of railroads and feature many unique details. Plus checkout those open-bearing sideframes (yes, they rotate)!

Rapido GP40

The Belle colors look great on the lines of a GP40.

We can't forget all of that neat attention to detail that the HO Scale GP40 Locomotives feature. The photos below show closeups of those details you expect, such as the Cannon and Company design fans.

Rapido GP40

These models are from a previous run but they show all of that amazing detail.

Rapido GP40

Don't forget those GP40 locomotives to power your Ski Train Cars! These 1980s-era Rio Grande GP40s looked sharp with a full passenger consist behind them as they rocketed up the side of the Rocky Mountains and through the famous Moffat Tunnel. They pair nicely with our PB HEP Cars!

Rapido Ski Train

This is a very early render shown. The model will undergo some changes before production.

Dig that prototypically correct backwards 8!

Rapido Ski Train

The HO Scale GP40 Locomotives feature:

  • NEW! Early-production truck, handrail and Automatic Train Stop details for New York Central units
  • NEW! Kansas City Southern GP40-3 variations with PTC antennas and ditch lights
  • Ski Train GP40s feature operating signal lights on nose (DRGW 3085) and cab headlight (DRGW 3135)
  • Equipped with licensed Cannon & Company 48" radiator fans and dynamic brake fans (early pan top or open top fans, where appropriate)
  • Measured from a real GP40
  • Road-specific details for each model
  • Rapido’s innovative dead straight metal side handrails with plastic stanchions
  • Incredible underframe detail including traction motor cables, air filters and a silly number of separately-applied parts
  • Road-specific battery box doors
  • Dynamic and non-dynamic brake options
  • Separate grab irons and handrails installed at the factory
  • Operating headlights, rear lights, class lights, ditch lights and beacons (where appropriate)
  • Highly detailed cab interior
  • Correct fuel tank sizes per road number
  • Multiple styles of stepwells
  • See-through, etched steps
  • Appropriate cab or nose headlights
  • Multiple truck side frames tooled
  • Different, prototype specific dynamic-brake hatches and air filters
  • DC/Silent (21-pin DCC Ready) or DC/DCC/Sound (ESU LokSound) options
  • Mo-Power capacitor system for uninterrupted operation in DCC power
  • Suggested minimum radius: 18"

Here are the schemes.

Rapido GP40

Just like the initial run, we don't expect these schemes to stay on the shelves for long! Order yours today. You can do so from your favorite hobby shop or directly through us by September 15th.

Rapido Halliburton

HO Scale Canadian Light Rail Vehicle

The HO Scale Canadian Light Rail Vehicle (CLRV) has an order deadline on September 15th, 2026, and we're just about ready to ring the bell! We also have a new video to show you.

Click here or the photo above to watch.

Rapido CLRV

The CLRV looks great fully decorated. Note: the destination sign isn't correct on the sample but will be corrected for production.

Rapido CLRV

First delivered in 1978 and entering service a year later, the CLRV became the face of TTC's vital network. These streetcars operated well into the 2000s as the backbone of their fleet. The final CLRVs were retired in 2019 as they were replaced by new cars. Many still survive today in museum collections. The TTC itself even has a CLRV preserved in their possession!

Rapido CLRV

Dig that fully functional "short turn" flag which flips up or down!

Rapido CLRV

The HO Scale CLRV features:

  • Accurately scaled from the 3D scan and prototype drawings
  • Power collection via track power or combined trolley pole and track power
  • Road number-specific details including original couplers or front skirts
  • All-wheel pickup and truck-mounted motors
  • Highly detailed interior including seats and operator controls
  • Fully functioning “Short Turn” flag sign on the front (where appropriate)
  • Fully functioning lighting including brake lights and turn signals (DCC Only)
  • Factory-applied destination signs (additional decals and extra clear plastic to change the destination sign display, where appropriate)
  • MoPower capacitor system for uninterrupted DCC running
  • DC/Silent (21-pin DCC Ready) or DC/DCC/ESU LokSound
  • Suggested minimum radius: 7.5 inches or maybe even tighter! We haven't tested below 7.5...

Here are all of the CLRV schemes!

Rapido CLRV
Rapido CLRV

Wait! We can't forget those preserved CLRVs. The following CLRV cars are preserved in prominent museums, including:

  • The Illinois Railway Museum houses #4034, which is the Late TTC scheme, still available for preorder. You can support the Illinois Railway Museum here.

  • Halton County Radial Railway (HCRR) has three of the cars we have up for preorder — #4003, #4010, and #4039, but is also home to #4178. You can support HCRR here.

Your donations are a valuable asset that ensure these classic streetcars don’t just sit in storage, but are actively preserved, restored, and shared with enthusiasts, students, and the transit-curious for years to come.

Psst. We listed each car number below. (We like to make things easy for you!)

CLRV 4034 — DC/Silent or DC/DCC/Sound (Illinois Railway Museum)

CLRV 4068 — DC/Silent or DC/DCC/Sound (Seashore Trolley Museum)

CLRV 4003 — DC/Silent or DC/DCC/Sound (Halton County Radial Railway)

CLRV 4010 — DC/Silent or DC/DCC/Sound (Halton County Radial Railway)

Rapido Kingston Sub

The Kingston Sub is on the Cover of Railroad Model Craftsmen!

This layout looks really familiar! Check out Jason's cover article in Railroad Model Craftsman Magazine, featuring his Kingston Sub Layout. Lots of great info and photos grace this article and features our HO Scale LRC items (N Scale, too).

As summer winds down, our announcements will heat up! Check back in a few weeks to see what we have cookin'. Until then, enjoy the last rays of summer.
