Betty Smith Gaskins Scholarship Awarded To Ms Grabosky

Afton United Methodist Church in Ophelia is delighted to announce that Koolapramote “Koi” Grabosky has been awarded the Betty Smith Gaskins Scholarship for 2020-2021. Since the scholarship was established in 2012, Afton has awarded ten $2,000 scholarships in Betty’s memory to deserving students from Northumberland County attending Rappahannock Community College.

Koi, a native of Thailand, has lived in the United States for seven years and is a U.S. citizen. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Ramkhamhaeng University in Bangkok. Since coming to the US, Koi graduated from the Practical Nursing Program at Rappahannock Community College, where she is taking prerequisites for the ADN (registered nursing) program. She is planning to take the NCLEX exam this month.

Afton UMC extends our congratulations to Koi and wishes her continued success as she pursues her educational goals.
Updates on Prayer Requests

Here's the latest on baby Jacob McGuckin (grandson of Pat McGuckin, District Treasurer):

Look who found his smile after 2 weeks of misery. What a relief it is to finally see this precious face!! God is so good!! Jacob’s facial palsy seems to have just vanished as well! This cycle was tough on Jacob and us as well. It’s been hard watching Jacob be brought down so low and seeing him so weak. It’s also been a true wonder seeing him bounce back so vigorously as well! We thank God for all of his wonders, for never leaving our side and for getting our sweet baby through all of this! He has 5 more chemo cycles and then a maintenance period after all of that. Please continue to keep our little super hero in you thoughts, hearts and prayers! God is so good!!

Update on Alaina Manley (daughter of Lynn Manley, District Secretary):

My daughter Alaina's breast cancer surgery went well yesterday. Thank you for all your prayers. We'll know after the tests come back whether radiation will be enough or if chemo is necessary. Thank you for your continued prayers!
Lynn
