Week of November 25th, 2024

Dear Raptor Families,

We want to take the time to wish all of our Raptor families a very Happy Thanksgiving. We hope that it will be a peaceful and rejuvenating time for everyone. Please know this holiday season that we are thankful that your family has chosen to partner with Lake Lure Classical Academy in the education of your child!

Farewell, Mrs. Youngblood

Thank you for your generous attention!

We want to wish Mrs. Youngblood the absolute best for a very happy retirement. Mrs. Youngblood has been an amazing asset to Lake Lure Classical Academy during her nine years here. She was really the smiling face of our school, known and loved by all. Mrs. Youngblood’s email tagline was a quote by Simone Weil that reads “Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity.” This is the way that Mrs. Youngblood lives her life, and we have all been incredibly touched by her attention. We will miss you, Mrs. Youngblood!

Congratulations, Mr. Calhoun!

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Calhoun applied for and won a Bright Ideas Grant from Rutherford EMC. We are appreciative to Mr. Calhoun for taking the initiative to apply for the grant and bring in extra funding for supplies in his classroom.

Here's Mr. Calhoun's Description of His Application: "My grant application was for a device called the PlantWave. This device attaches to plants, senses the bioelectrical impulses within the plant, and then converts those signals to music. The plan is to use this device to study how different variables such as sunlight, water, and temperature can cause variability in plant bioactivity. We can also compare different plants and the music produced by each and whether they have a specific signature. Additionally, when we're not studying plant music, students can listen to plant music while working on assignments or studying. I think this has great scientific potential for biology classes and horticulture classes."

Please Send Your Child's Lunch This Week!

We will not be offering lunches at school this week. Please send your children with their own lunches. Thank you!

From Nurse Redmon: The holidays are coming, and large gatherings, travel, and more time indoors can mean more viruses spreading. Fortunately, we have tools to help us stay healthy so we can enjoy the time we spend with our families, friends, and neighbors.

  • There’s still time to benefit from getting your recommended immunizations to reduce your risk of illness, especially severe illness and hospitalization.
  • For people who do get sick with flu and COVID-19, antiviral medications for each of these illnesses are recommended for people who are at higher risk of severe illness
  • You can also protect yourself and others with everyday prevention actions, like covering coughs and sneezes, improving ventilation, staying home and away from others when you are sick (including people you live with), and washing hands often.

Thank you to the families who sent in cough drops! We have used MANY!

PCAC Meeting:

Our next meeting will be held on December 16, 2024 in Mrs. Kristin’s Room (A-13).Join us in-person (or online) for a special message from our AIG coordinator Mrs. Granville.
