Week of November 23, 2025

Dear Parents and Families,

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I want to take a moment to reflect on the spirit of gratitude that this season brings. Thanksgiving is not only a time to enjoy delicious meals and festive traditions, but also an opportunity to pause and appreciate the many blessings in our lives—our families, our friends, and the supportive community we share here at school.

I am deeply thankful for the partnership we have with each of you. Your encouragement, involvement, and care make a tremendous difference in the lives of our students. Together, we create an environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

During this holiday, I hope you find time to gather with loved ones, share laughter, and create lasting memories. Whether you are traveling or celebrating at home, may your days be filled with warmth, joy, and gratitude.

On behalf of our entire school staff, I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving. We look forward to welcoming our students back after the break, refreshed and ready for the exciting weeks ahead.

With gratitude,

Ms. Cohen

Exciting News for Families!

This fall, LLCA launched our "Feed the Children" initiative to ensure that every student has access to a healthy, nutritious lunch, especially those families facing financial hardship. Thanks to an extraordinary pledge from an anonymous couple, LLCA has been presented with a $25,000 Matching Challenge!

This means that every dollar donated to the "Feed the Children" initiative between now and December 30 will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, until we reach the $25,000 goal. Your support for our students in need has never been more impactful—a $50 donation becomes $100 for our kids.

Simple Ways Your Family Can Help:

If you wish to make a tax-deductible donation to capitalize on the matching opportunity, please make your check out to Lake Lure Classical Academy, note "Feed the Children" in the memo line, and mail it to: Lake Lure Classical Academy, POB 6, Lake Lure, NC 28746 or drop it off at the school. Or you can simply go to the school website and click the “Donate” tab. Be sure to use the Feed the Children option in the drop down list. Let's rally together to maximize this generous challenge and ensure no LLCA child goes hungry!

Thank you for supporting the well-being and academic focus of our students.

“If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one.” Mother Teresa

From Mr. Fair, Dean of Students

As we head into the Thanksgiving holiday, I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all of our families. We are truly grateful for your partnership and support. This year, we have seen tremendous growth in our students—both academically and behaviorally—and we are incredibly proud of their hard work and progress.

We hope you enjoy a restful and joyful Thanksgiving break with your loved ones. As always, if you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We value our ongoing communication and look forward to continuing this positive momentum together when we return.

Stop Helicopter Parenting, LET THEM PLAY, Let them get bored….this is how your child develops creativity, problem solving, conflict resolution, has meaningful experiences, and more.  Here is a 9 minute video overview of The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt.

The Anxious Generation Book Summary (5 LESSONS)

AI Summary of The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt

Promote real-world independence and play to build resilience: Jonathan Haidt emphasizes that the decline in real-world, unsupervised play—and the rise of highly structured, screen-filled childhoods—has undermined children's ability to develop coping mechanisms, emotional regulation, and resilience under stress, including in test settings. Encouraging outdoor, independent, and risk-taking play helps students learn to manage anxiety, navigate challenges, and develop emotional strength, making them better prepared to handle testing stress.

Normalize anxiety and teach coping strategies: Haidt and experts drawing from his work suggest that schools and educators should openly discuss anxiety as a normal experience, provide students with structured opportunities to voice their worries (“worry windows”), and foster downtime for social connections, hobbies, and play. Building these routines and acknowledging that anxiety is common can help students avoid avoidance behaviors, develop coping strategies, and ultimately reduce the emotional burden of testing anxiety.

We are SO thankful for our School Dentist. The team saw 33 students in two days, with more students yet to be seen! The dental crew was so busy that they need to schedule another visit to finish seeing the remaining students. As soon as I know the date, I will let you know. If your student was signed up to see the dentist and they did not get seen, they will be in the group for their return visit.

There is a new mutation of the Flu floating around this season. It’s not too late to get your flu shot. The flu vaccine minimizes your risk of serious illness and/or hospitalization from the flu. Are you at risk?

Keep in mind, the best ways to decrease the spread of illness is to practice proper hand and respiratory hygiene. Do not come to school if you have a fever or have had a fever in the past 24 hours or if your cough is uncontrolled. Flu/Covid tests are available over-the-counter at most pharmacies. Our local Ingles pharmacy has them at the pharmacy counter. Be prepared this season!
