Honoring Our Veterans
A heartfelt thank-you to all our Veterans for your service, sacrifice, and dedication to our country. We were honored to have so many of you join us for our Veterans Day program on Friday. Building Belonging: How Parents Shape Our School Community
Our school community thrives when families are connected and involved. Every time a parent shows up—whether it’s at a game, performance, volunteer event, or even just a quick chat at drop-off—it sends a powerful message to students: school matters, and so do they. Your presence helps create the caring, supportive environment that makes our school feel like family.
We know everyone’s schedule looks different, and involvement can take many forms. Reading with your child, checking in about their day, or reaching out to a teacher are all meaningful ways to stay connected. The small things really do add up to big growth—for both students and our community as a whole.
As part of keeping those connections strong, we invite you to join us for next week’s Parent Engagement Series session: College Planning. We’ll meet on November 13th at 3:15pm and families of all grade levels are encouraged to attend. It’s a great opportunity to share ideas, ask questions, and work together to help every student plan confidently for the future.

AIG Information from Mrs. Granville
Each week our school has Thankful Thursday in which students are encouraged to think about even the smallest thing(s) they can be thankful for. For the month of November Elementary AIG and Talent Pool students are given the following writing prompt. “I CAN do HARD things. ____is hard, but I CAN do it. It is hard because______. I will _____to make it easier. I am thankful/proud I can now ______. I can do this because I_____.” In a world full of instant gratification, apathy, the inability to regulate, allusions; I challenge all parents to look through the lens of “How am I setting my child up for success and how am I engaged in my child’s life, working with his/her teacher/school for academic success?”
Helping Your Child Thrive:
The Power of Positive Speech and a Growth Mindset
From the earliest years, how children talk to themselves and the language they hear from adults shapes their brains—a concept known as neuroplasticity, which refers to the brain’s amazing ability to change and grow in response to experiences. Encouraging your child to use positive self-talk and embrace a growth mindset (“I can learn and improve with effort”) lays a foundation for resilience, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
Why Positive Speech Matters
Positive self-talk involves replacing negative thoughts like “I can’t do this” with encouraging phrases such as “This is challenging, but I can try my best.” This practice builds children’s confidence and helps them manage frustration and stress. When children regularly hear and say positive affirmations, they strengthen the brain pathways related to optimism and perseverance, making it easier to bounce back from setbacks and keep trying even when things get hard.
What Is a Growth Mindset?
A growth mindset is the belief that abilities and intelligence are not fixed but can grow through effort and learning. When children understand their brain is like a muscle that grows stronger with exercise, they become more willing to tackle new challenges. Praising effort instead of innate ability encourages children to embrace challenges as opportunities to improve rather than obstacles.
Tips for Parents
- Listen for negative self-talk and gently help your child reframe these thoughts into more positive ones.
- Use simple affirmations you create together, such as “I am capable” or “Mistakes help me learn.”
- Praise your child’s effort and hard work, not just results. Say things like “You really stuck with that!”
- Talk openly about how the brain grows and changes, making learning an exciting adventure.
By fostering positive speech and a growth mindset early, parents can significantly influence their child’s brain development, emotional health, and academic success. This early encouragement equips children with the resilience and motivation needed to thrive throughout life.
And just as important is learning to complete a task, stay with it until the end, DO HARD THINGS

‘Tis the season for colds, flu, Covid, RSV, Strep, and all the various holiday germs! Please be vigilant in instructing your students in the proper techniques of handwashing. Handwashing is the simplest, most important way to mitigate the spread of germs. If your child becomes ill, please keep them home until they are improving and are fever-free for 24hrs without the use of fever-reducing medication. If your child has an uncontrollable cough, please keep them home until they can control their cough or it is controlled with medication. Questions or concerns? I’m available at credmon@llcharter.org or at ext. 113.
