Cold Weather Dress Code Reminders

Greetings Raptor Families,  

I hope this message finds you well. As we transition into Fall and the weather finally begins to cool off, we want to remind families that our dress code provides for a variety of approved cold-weather gear. Our approved vendors are offering several options for students, including hoodies, crew neck sweatshirts, sweaters, cardigans, and stylish jackets to help meet your needs.

As a reminder, jackets and sweatshirts with outside logos are not permitted to be worn in the building. If you haven’t yet acquired the gear your student needs to stay warm this season, please review the options available at the link provided below.

Any parent who is interested in becoming part of the School Improvement Team(SIT), please email jpowell@llcharter.org 

All stakeholders are always invited to SIT monthly meetings. The SIT meets the second Thursday of each month at 3:15 PM.

Please remember to order your child’s lunch for the month of October. Orders must be placed by Tuesday of each week to receive meals for the following week. For example, if you place your order by Tuesday, October 7th, the lunches will be provided for the week after that. The link to order lunches is below the October Menu - Meal Magic.

UNC System Virtual Open House

October is NC Countdown to College month and to aid students in making a decision for college, the UNC System is hosting its sixth annual Virtual Open House for prospective students, families, and high school counselors to learn more about the 16 UNC System universities. During the weeks of October 6 & 13, 2025 a series of four virtual sessions will be hosted via Zoom Webinar. Admissions Counselors from each institution will share helpful information about the admissions process and current students from each university will share about their college experience and answer your questions live.

K-5 Fundraiser: LLCA PCAC is hosting BOO Grams with a Halloween surprise! Keep an eye out for forms in folders in the coming week. Please fill out a box below for each gram you wish to send along with $1 for each. Please send in money and grams by October 22nd.

AIG Information from Mrs. Granville

In the Spring, 2025 thanks to a grant from the Tryon International Film Festival and Alison Marek, LLCA Cinema Club was formed.  The club created three film shorts showcasing what “Outdoor Education” means to the students. These films will be entered in the “Student Film" category during the TIFF festival October 9-12, 2025.  We hope you will get a chance to view the films during the festival. The students had a wonderful time and are grateful to TIFF for the opportunity. (picture shared separate)

For parents of K-2 Talent Pool, second grade, third grade, new to school, and AIG program nominated students. Please read about the CogAT Screener testing window to occur between Oct. 1 - 16.

Advanced Learning Labs for Students/Families   NCDPI has updated the learning labs to ensure links are working. These were first created during COVID to engage families in learning at home.  Your family may enjoy looking through and picking a couple to do each month according to your student’s interests. 

SO Many Bookworms at LLCA!

Anytime you check out a book the month of October, you get a chance to guess on our Book Worm Estimation Game.  The closest estimation will make you a winner!

Two Sentence Horror Story Contest: Create the shortest horror story consisting of only two sentences. In the last week of October, students will vote on the scariest one.

Scarrrry Movie Trailer Intro: Create your own scary movie intro using Chrome Music Lab Song Maker To make a song, add notes by clicking the grid, press the arrow keys to move, enter and backspace to add and remove notes, and spacebar to play.  Then share your song with a link to kgranville@llcharter.org no later than October 21st.

Health & Wellness Information from Nurse Redmon



Thank you to all the students who participated in the Lions Club Vision Screening! The Lions Club offers this FREE service every year for our students,  and we are so thankful for their care and commitment to our community.

Save-the-Date for November 21st and 24th for The School Dentist! We are pleased to welcome back our School Dental team to care for every student who signs up for treatment. The dental team will perform cleanings and basic dental services such as fillings and extractions. Referrals will be made for extensive care. At the last visit, the dental team filled 53 cavities!

Financial aid is available! The School Dental Group files insurance, Medicaid, and gives a cash discount! Forms will be going home the first week of October, or you can sign up online at myschooldentist.com 

Lastly, if you have a student in K, 7th, or 12th grade, their immunization updates are PAST DUE! The State of North Carolina requires all immunization updates on these grade levels, and they are due by the 30th day of school. If you have had these updates, PLEASE send a copy to the school. Notices started going out before the end of the last school year and continued in the Newsletter throughout the summer. The State of NC has the right to withhold entrance into school until the records are updated. www.immunizenc.gov If you have a medical or religious exemption, PLEASE send that in.
