Two Belle Epoque Gems in Stock at The Ross Art Group

In the midst of holiday celebrations and end-of-year plans, we wanted to share with you two extremely rare and exciting pieces that are now available both online and in the Gallery. We have acquired both Jacques Villon's 1899 poster Guinguette Fleurie , one of only seven created by this important artist, as well as Henri de Toulouse Lautrec's cover piece for L'Estampe Originale ; one of only 100 ever made, hand-signed and numbered by the artist. Both pieces are held in the permanent collections of many museums around the world, and it is a rarity to have them available for sale and not at auction. L'Estampe Originale Cover by Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, 1893

This rare print by Henri de Toulouse Lautrec was the cover for the first edition of L’Estampe Originale in 1893. L’Estampe Originale was a subscription editorial created for the art community in Paris by Andre Marty, and focused on raising the profile of printmaking as a serious artform. Only 100 editions were printed of each of the 9 issues created from 1893 - 1895, many of which live in the permanent collections of important museums such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Van Gogh Museum. Each edition featured examples of the highly artistic nature of printmaking, from artists such as Lautrec, Paul Gauguin, and Auguste Renoir. Guinguette Fleurie by Jacques Villon, 1899

This rare poster for Guinguette Fleurie is one of only seven posters created by important School of Paris artist, Jacques Villon. Printed in 1899, Guinguette Fleurie perfectly encapsulates the Art Nouveau style popular during the Belle Epoque. Guinguettes were a style of open-air bars that were in vogue during the modernization of Paris at the end of the 1800s. A place to get a cheap drink or bite to eat, they often featured music and dancing and were catered to the growing working class.
