On the day of the Winter Solstice, December 21st, I will again offer the Five Element Water Treatment. At this exact time every year, the Water Element in the universe and in our own self is at its most powerful. Which means that treatments on the Kidney and Bladder meridians have extra powers of healing. The Water Element is about supporting the deepest parts of our being: bones, bone marrow, brain, constitution, genes and DNA. This is the best time to address our genetic weaknesses and strengthen the deep core of our being. And in these difficult times, it is a great time to rebuild our resilience.
In nature, Water is a tremendous force. Think of the way the waters of the Colorado river created the Grand Canyon, or about tsunamis, hurricanes and floods. The earth has been redesigned by the forces of water. Nothing resists it, neither rocks nor mountains. The human Will is very much like that and Will is the quality associated with water.
It is also a time to contemplate and take in the lessons of winter. Nature rests in winter: growth is at a minimum and the season leads the way for our body, mind and spirit to rest, renew themselves, and gain power and resilience for the upcoming spring.
In the spring, we will spend this accumulated power on growth, expansion and renewal, just like our gardens will do. It is the natural tendency of our being to do so, and the winter calls us to increase our qi in preparation for that effort. The winter is about will and power and building the future.
The treatment has only four points: Kidney 10 and Bladder 66 on both sides. Treating the kidney and bladder meridians is often part of treatments used in treating long term and chronic diseases. Bone health (including teeth), healthy, shining hair, and a good sense of smell are also associated with the water element. Along with our ability to develop our sense of smell, the Water Element also has to do with developing intuition.
