Guidance/Advisory Class Update

In Elementary I (Grades 1 - 3), students have started talking and learning about how they process anger, and are exploring ways to create a more peaceful environment for themselves and others.

In Elementary II (Grades 4 - 6), students are working on ways to be intentional and ways to show kindness towards others.

In Grades 7 and 8, students have begun presentations on social justice topics, including topics like animal rights, ageism, and The American Heart Association.

Teachers are continuing to use the Love and Logic Classroom Management tool. Below, I've shared some of the strategies used here at school that you can also use at home:

When a child tries to argue with you, try going "brain dead first" (e.g. don't respond, and give them a minute). Try to avoid engaging "in the cycle."

Use the Love and Logic "one liners," making sure to use a less than neutral tone, and to avoid sounding sarcastic.

Here are a few of my favorites:

-I care too much about you to argue.
-That's a bummer!
-I noticed you...
-I will always try my best to help you.

As always, feel free to reach out to me if you have questions.

Stay Warm!

Spotlight on Clubs: Robotics Club!
Robotics Club is led by Mr. Persanyi, Ratner Middle School Teacher and Technology Coordinator. Robotics students work in teams to assemble and code Lego Mindstorm robots. Special emphasis is placed on strategically building and learning to maneuver the robots in a “wrestling style” for the annual Robotics Throwdown competition, which takes place on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Andrews Osborne Academy. Mark your calendars and come cheer on the Raptors Robotics team!
