Update from Alex's dad:
Saturday, January 12, 2012 I guess today was a better day than yesterday, but that's easy for me to say...I wasn't here yesterday. Really though, he didn't seem to be any more out of sorts than normal, he ate some lunch, he had physical therapy, and was a little grumpy till company came.
I attended physical therapy and observed as they worked with him on sitting up without assistance. Understand this is not Alex getting into a sitting position. This is his therapists getting him into an upright sitting position and having Alex maintain it without support. He managed 15 - 20 seconds at a time. But that's how we start...with baby steps. Then we increase the duration. They also worked with him on rolling over from lying flat on his back. He has no abdominal muscle control and these muscles are key to this activity. I can see why they want to keep him an additional two weeks. Believe me, the longer they keep him at BMC, the better. These are all key living activities he needs to master. On another front, things are coming together nicely at home. Norm, Rod and the crew came over to work on the ramp. I spoke with Norm from the hospital this afternoon. It sounds like the ramp is pretty much done except for the hand rail and Norm is coming over tomorrow of finish that up. Ron came over to begin the tile work in the shower. Ron was able to start today because Fred did such a great job on setting the stage for the next step. Jerry is waiting in the wings to finish the sheetrock as soon as the tile work is done; the electrician, Paul is nearly done his share of the job; and Ron, the plumber, is ready and waiting to get in and finish up the shower head and install the sink. As I said, things are coming together. On the fundraising front, the Rochambeau Club is available and is booked for a dance on 3/17/12. Folks can kill two birds with one stone; support Alex through this fundraiser, and celebrate St. Patrick's Day (I'll place a special request for green beer). More information, such as where to obtain tickets, will be posted as the details are firmed up. Information will be posted here as well as on a Facebook page for Alex Paul Fundraising, when the page is set-up. Stay tuned for more details.
