Counselor's Corner: Socially Connected
Summit Middle Schoolers stay connected during Stay at Home orders by using virtual meetings.

#SociallyConnected: A Challenge from the Counselor

During this time of physical distancing, it is still important to maintain our social connections! This week we challenge our Summit community to reach out to your friends and make an extra effort to be #sociallyconnected.

Early Learners - Do a "virtual show and tell" with 2-3 friends!

Lower School - Set up "virtual lunch buddies" with 2-3 friends!

Upper School - Set up a "virtual study/social group" with friends!

Share you virtual hangout with us on social media! Tag us @summitprepschool, and use the hashtag #SummitDistanceLearning

For additional support, please reach out to Becky Breckner, Summit's Guidance Counselor.

STEM Connection: Family Challenge

Looking for a STEM activity for the whole family? Here's one from Frugal Fun for Boys & Girls to try:

Can you make a walking horse out of paper?

Materials: Construction paper (or any paper), scissors, pen/pencil, and a ruler.

Step 1: Use a metric ruler to draw the shape below. Start with a rectangle that is 15 cm by 4.5 cm. Then divide it up as shown.

Step 2: Cut around the perimeter of the rectangle. Then cut the DOTTED LINES inside the rectangle.

Step 3: Curl the tail (I know horses tails aren't curled like that, but it seems to make it balance better) and fold the head.

Step 4: Now it's time to make your horse walk! The surface that the horse walks on is important! It needs to have enough friction, but not too much. ( Click here for troubleshooting tips and tricks.)

Share your pictures on social media and be sure to tag us @summitprepschool, so we can see your walking horses!
