A Special Message from the Head of School:
Meet Our Lower School STEM Coordinator!
Dear Summit Community,

As we enter into the home stretch of the school year, I would like to share some exciting news coming to The Summit this fall.

We are pleased to announce that former Summit educator Mrs. Rhonda Lersch will be returning to serve in a new position as our Lower School STEM Coordinator. Mrs. Lersch retired from The Summit last spring after a stellar career of over forty years in education. An experienced gifted educator, Mrs. Lersch prepares students not only for the intellectual challenge of middle school but also fosters their independence and maturity as they transition to the next phase in their educational journey. Her expert guidance in curriculum and program development exemplifies this student-centered approach.

Mrs. Lersch’s skilled project-based learning execution and passion for education has enriched not only her students but The Summit community as a whole as an active advocate for the school’s STEM initiatives. She has been instrumental in coordinating with students to plan the native landscaping garden project on campus and a valuable member of the school’s STEM Task Force. In her time at The Summit, Rhonda consistently facilitated extended learning opportunities. She has led students to victory in competitions including Destination Imagination, LEGO Robotics, Math League, and LAD Fair.

Mr. Powers will continue to lead our STEM education and programming in Upper School. We are thrilled to have these two highly experienced and progressive educators at the forefront of this important and exciting advancement in our STEM initiatives.

Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Lersch back to The Summit!

Sincerely,

Dr. Katie Heet
From Mrs. Lersch’s former students:

“Mrs. Lersch was an amazing, super fun teacher! We did so many really cool projects with her in 5th grade. My favorite project we did was when we designed our food trucks and then made the food!”
- Sydney W., current Summit 7th grader

“Mrs. Lersch was a really great teacher! I loved when we did our food trucks, and I also liked creating to-scale buildings. I chose to make an underwater hotel. She would stay late with us so we could work on Destination Imagination, and she'd give up her Saturdays to go to the competitions. Thank you for teaching us.”
- Emily C., current Summit 7th grader

“Mrs. Lersch is an amazing teacher. She is very kind and caring to everyone she encounters. When she is teaching, she never gets frustrated with us and always has a smile on her face. She is very patient when helping students and always gives positive feedback when she is talking. Mrs. Lersch has brought a smile to my face so many times and has made 5th grade year the best year I have ever had.” - Gracelyn R., current Summit 6th grader
