The Summit at Seuss Science Day This Saturday, April 10th
The Summit has been invited to participate in Ozark Public Television and KSMU’s Seuss Science Day on Saturday, April 10th from 10am-2pm at the Pat Jones YMCA.

Stop by on Saturday to see Mr. Powers create elephant toothpaste live on-stage! The Summit will have a booth set up where we will be making oobleck from Bartholomew and the Oobleck (featured in a special storytime with Ms. Amy!).

This is sure to be an exciting and educational event for students (targeted for ages 4-10), and we invite all of our families to come out and enjoy some Professor Powers antics and Seuss-y science-y fun!
All-School Service Day on Thursday, April 22nd
The Summit will be participating in our third all-school service day, “Ravens Reach Out Day,” on Thursday, April 22nd (Earth Day). This year, we will be working in our Big Backyard! In the past, we have partnered with The Watershed Center for our service day, but this year in an effort to engage safely as a community without transportation, we will be working together on campus.

Classes will be working outside in staggered groups, doing a variety of light beautification tasks (planting, pulling weeds, etc). We will start and end the day at The Summit (just like a normal school day).

Our parent community is invited to participate in this all-school service day with students. Parents may attend during their child’s classroom volunteer time and picnic time (parents with students in multiple grades may attend all their classroom service times).

Check your email for more information!

If you would like to donate tools for the service day or to help SPO check in volunteers, please us this Sign Up Genius to volunteer!

2nd Grade Invention Convention
2nd Grade has been studying inventions and inventors who have helped change the world with their innovations. Students have learned that inventors can come up with completely new products or devices that solve a particular problem. At other times, they can take existing items and change or improve them so that they work better or serve a different purpose. Studying inventions helps students learn to think, plan, create, and improve the world around them - just like inventors do!

To capstone their learning, students created their own inventions and presented them to their classmates in an Invention Convention.

Click on the link below to hear directly from the 2nd Graders and learn all about these new, exciting, creative, and useful inventions!
Left to Right: Ryleigh R. (6th), Nicole J. (6th), & Sophia J. (6th)
Middle School Research Presentations
Middle school students are wrapping up their research presentations and doing a stellar job teaching their classmates about their topics of choice. Their creativity has been off the charts, and the depth of their research is impressive!

From here, students move into a study of 1000-1300 CE and "becoming the world." They are asked to consider what innovations were necessary to better connect the world. They will be engaging with primary sources to highlight events and people of the time.

Maybe one day students will be researching the inventions that changed the 21st century from The Summit 2nd Grade!
