$2 Uniform Buyout Day Thursday 2/13

Tomorrow, Thursday, February 13th, is a $2 uniform buyout day at The Summit Prep! Students, faculty, and staff may pay $2 to buy out of uniform for the day! An optional theme is Have a "Hearty" Day (think hearts, Valentines, or even lumberjacks!). Cash will be collected at the lobby doors and all proceeds benefit the 2019-2020 Summit Swim Team!
No School on Friday or Monday

Enjoy the long weekend! Summit faculty and staff will be working on campus Friday, February 14th, but Summit offices will be closed on Monday, February 17th. We will see everyone back in class on Tuesday!

This adults-only event features a keynote presentation from Professor Patricia Reiff, Director of the Rice Space Institute at Rice University. All proceeds benefit STEM initiatives at The Summit Prep. Tickets start at $100 and sponsorships are available. This event is open to the entire Ozarks community, so please invite your friends to attend!

"Reaching for the Stratosphere" Keynote Presentation & Dinner

7:30 PM | Keynote Presentation by Dr. Patricia Rieff

Dr. Reiff is a Professor at Rice University in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and was the founding Director of the Rice Space Institute at the University. Prof. Reiff has been involved in space plasma physics research for over 48 years and works with NASA to help train their astronauts.

Additional Special Guest: Commander Trish Beckman, a Navy Officer, Flight Navigator, Aircraft Dispatcher, and Aeronautical Engineer. She was the first woman ever to qualify as a crewmember in the F-15E and the first American woman to qualify as a crewmember in the F/A-18D. She is now a Boeing test pilot.

The VIP reception will provide an opportunity to mingle with guests of honor, Dr. Patricia Reiff and Commander Trish Beckman, and includes complimentary beer, wine, and hors d'oeuvres. There are also a limited number of premiere tickets for seating at either Dr. Reiff or Cdr. Beckman's table during dinner.

General Admission Tickets: $100 per person
VIP Reception: Additional $50 per person
Premiere Tickets (only 12 left!): $200 per person (includes VIP Reception)

Table sponsorships (10 seats) are also available for $1,400. This includes admittance to the VIP Reception for everyone at the table as well as special recognition.

Proceeds raised from the event will benefit STEM initiatives and Innovation Lab space at The Summit

PreK's Butter Making Dance Party!

Learning about the five food groups is always fun in PreK, especially if you get to dance around while learning!

PreK turned their dance moves into power moves as they used their "energy" to shake cream and create... butter!

Summit Kindergarten Screenings: This Friday 2/14

The Summit is hosting our 2020-2021 Kindergarten Screenings this Friday, February 14th. If you know a prospective Kindergarten family, have them contact Amy Maas, Admissions Officer, to be added to the RSVP list.

Summit Family Referral Credit: Current Summit families who recommend a new student that enrolls can receive up to $500 in Growth Fund Credit (per student)! According to the recent Marketing Survey, over 50% of participants first heard about The Summit from a recommendation by a friend or community member! Our families are our biggest advocates, and we so appreciate your support!
Hour of Code at MSU on Saturday 2/22

Missouri State University's
Department of Information Technology and Cybersecurity has partnered with World Wide Technology to host The Hour of Code, an event introducing coding to K-12 students.

Global School Day of Play a Success at The Summit Prep

Students enjoyed a day of unstructured play in celebration of Global School Play Day last week! All Summit students, Beginners through High School, spent the day building, creating, reading, playing games, creating forts, running obstacle courses, and even roller skating! According to their website, Global School Play Day had over 563,000 participants from 75 nations, including The Summit Prep in Springfield, Missouri!

Schneider family members: Ms. Susie Holliday, Dr. Michael Schneider, and Mr. Monty Schneider with Summit sixth graders, Leah and Grayson.

Schneider Foundation Recognized

Last week, The Summit Prep honored The Schneider Foundation, longtime supporters of our school, with a special plaque unveiling ceremony. Students, Board Members, faculty, and staff celebrated the Schneider Foundation and their commitment to educational excellence in the Ozarks. Third through fifth graders, led by Senora Leighninger, performed a special song and presented a signed poster to the Schneider family. Evan M., senior and Student Council President, along with Dr. Heet, Head of School, and Susan Miranti, Summit Board President, also gave short speeches thanking the Schneiders for their continued support. 

Be sure to check out the new plaque outside the front entrance, just to the right of the glass lobby doors.

Sophomores: Leadership Springfield Applications

Attention all high school sophomores: Leadership Springfield applications are now available. Click here to apply before March 30, 2020.

The Leadership Springfield Academy Class is a community leadership program established in 1990 to help youth in their junior year discover how to be more engaged citizens and develop as community leaders. During this nine month program in the 2020-2021 school year, a class of 32 students will explore their strengths, learn about the local community, and coordinate monthly program days where they get to see firsthand how leaders work together to structure and influence the community around them. Students will gain project management skills, leadership aptitude and a newfound appreciation for the work that goes into making our community
