State of The Summit Presentation

Thursday, January 18th at 6:00 p.m.
at The Future Home of The Summit Prep (202 E. Walnut Lawn)

The Summit Board of Trustees and Head of School invite you to participate in our annual "State of The Summit" interactive presentation. The theme for this year's meeting is "Celebrate The Summit." Our school is thriving! We're growing! We're moving!

Lead architect and designer Billy Kimmons will present drawings and design highlights of our future home that ensure our progressive learning model continues in our new space. There will also be a budget and tuition 2018-2019 update as well as tours of the new facility.

Please join us tomorrow (Thursday, January 18) at 6:00 pm at The Future Home of The Summit Prep (202 E. Walnut Lawn) for this "Don't Miss" event!

Free child care is available. Parents/guardians attending The State of The Summit may bring their children with them to the presentation at the new building for free on site childcare. There will be a Summit Administrator on duty as well as a Fun Zone leader.

Calling all 2018-2019 Beginners & Pre-Kindergarteners!
Do you know someone who will be 3 or 4 years old this Fall and ready to start school? Tell us about them, because we have just a few openings left for our Summit Beginners & PreK classes of 2018-2019.

The Summit offers the only fully accredited 3 year old program in the area and provides all our early learners with Music & Art classes and daily Spanish class! But space is limited. We only accept 12 Beginners, and only 18 PreK students.

Know someone who might be interested? Talk to Amy Maas, Summit's Admissions Officer, asap!

Remember, we offer referral credits up to $500 if you introduce a new family to The Summit and they sign a contract! Ask  Amy Maas or  Kristin Walker for more details.
Please Save Your Old/Used CDs for an Art Project
Mrs. Murphy is working on a big art project having to do with old/used CDs or DVDs. If you have old/used/scratched/no-longer using discs please bring them in for our art classes.


Favorite Teacher Contest at Barnes & Noble
A school is much like a bookstore - both are places of inspiration, passion, education, and dreams.  That's why Barnes & Noble is excited to recognize the foundation of our great American schools,  our dedicated teachers, with the Barnes & Noble My Favorite Teacher Contest. This nationwide contest
provides students with the opportunity to tell their communities how much they value their teachers.

Here's how the contest works. Middle and high school students write an essay, poem, or thank you letter  describing their favorite teacher and how that person has influenced and inspired them. They complete 
an entry form (also available for download at 
BN.COM/myfavoriteteacher ) and school  representatives collect the entries and mail or deliver them in by  March 2

Our team of judges will  choose the winning teacher and recognize both the teacher and the student at a special ceremony at  our store during spring Educator Appreciation Days. We invite the media and community to attend this  heartwarming event.  Our local winner will be entered into the regional contest and have a chance to win a $500  Barnes & Noble Gift Card, and the opportunity to be named the Barnes & Noble National Teacher of  the Year. The national winner will be honored in a ceremony at their local Barnes & Noble store. They  will receive a $5,000 cash prize and their school will receive $5,000 as well. The national student  winner will receive a $500 Barnes & Noble Gift Card and a NOOK® device.

We hope you're as excited about this contest as we are. It's a terrific way to showcase your students'  writing skills and creativity, and most importantly, to honor exceptional teachers!

Upper School Mixer
Friday, January 19, 2018
8:30-10:30 p.m.
Ballroom World (1911 Glenstone Ave)
Cost: $15 per student & $15 per guest.

This mixer will follow the Daddy/Daughter Dance and is only for students in 6th-12th grade. Feel free to invite your non-Summit friends as well! They will just need to have a guest form filled out and turned in to Mr. Gronniger by TODAY  Wednesday, Jan. 17th.

Mom/Son Bowling
Friday, February 2, 2018
1:00-3:00 p.m.
Andy B's (1127 E Battlefield Rd)
Cost: $30 for a Mom/Son Pair, plus $15 for each additional son or mom.

This event is sure to be a lot of fun for all ages of gentlemen and their moms (or grandmother, aunt, etc.). The Summit has reserved the VIB space at Andy B's and all bowlers will get up to 2 games of bowling, special parking, free shoes, and even dedicated wait staff so you can order all the snacks you want! (Snacks have additional cost, but are quite delicious!) Each attendee will receive a $10 game card and Andy B's will make sure that every bowler will get a chance to play glow laser tag!

All School Field Trip to Wonders of Wildlife: Wed. Jan 24
Don't forget about our ALL SCHOOL FIELD TRIP next Wednesday, January 24th. Drop off is AT WONDERS OF WILDLIFE that day, same time as normal 8:30-8:45 a.m. All will be welcomed to join us on this field trip, parents without a WOW Family Pass will receive 10% off the normal admission price and will need to pay at the door that day.  Questions?    Contact Amy Maas.

The Summit Parent Organization (SPO) would like to build the relationships within The Summit community by offering families with businesses the opportunity to list their business in the Summit Business Directory. This will allow us to support one another through referrals and patronage.

Participation is completely optional and free of charge. Additionally, teachers are excited at the prospect of the Business Directory to have as a reference for potential guest speakers in their classrooms &/or field trip opportunities. Don't forget to keep collecting all your box tops, labels, and Tyson product codes! We have a clear bucket on the front desk counter to collect these labels all year long. Please be sure to ask your family and friends to collect theirs as well, The Summit gets credit for every label turned in! 

Fun fact: In year's past The Summit has collected over  7600 labels in a single year! 4000 box tops, just shy of 2000 Best choice labels, and 1600+ Labels for Education! Let's beat that this year!
