Scholastic Book Fair
This year, the Scholastic Book Fair will be online! The Summit’s Book Fair will be held from November 1st-14th. A store link will be emailed to families and posted in the Raven Report. Books will be mailed to your home within 48 hours of ordering.

To advertise our Book Fair this year, we’d like to encourage our Summit family to make short commercials and/or book reviews that we can share with the community each day during the Book Fair. Videos should be less than one minute in length and submitted by October 26th. To submit your video, please email Whitney Wiese, Communications & Enrollment Officer.

Here’s your opportunity to shine! Make your commercial as funny and creative as you want. Or make a book review of one of your favorite books that’s available through the Book Fair; you might inspire others to love it as much as you do!

Stories & Sunshine
Mrs. Yarnell and the 3rd grade class are taking advantage of the beautiful fall weather to go outside and enjoy reading some pumpkin-themed books together in the Big Backyard.

In class, students are writing their very own pumpkin picture books to share virtually with our younger Summit students.

Student POV: Hybrid Learning
Contributed by: Verity Gerhold, 11th Grade

As a hybrid learner, I’m so glad the teachers are working with students like myself who are not physically in class. I have found that I’m still doing well in my classes in spite of being distanced. The students in my class are always helpful when I ask for a picture of the board or when I have a question on something. Joining into the classes online is pretty easy, minus a couple technical issues.

Being inside the same house for nearly half a year now can be a little trying, so sometimes I’ll walk at a nearby park or just stand outside for a minute to regain focus and sanity before I get back to working. Also, without driving time, I have more time to relax, play with my dog, draw in my sketchbook, and work on my guitar skills.

School can be stressful on its own, but having a pandemic on top of that makes everything worse. Luckily, hybrid learning is an option, and I’m grateful that The Summit has that option.
A Note from Mr. Alexander...
Verity is overcoming challenges daily as a hybrid learner. Online classes can be challenging, but Verity takes it all in stride and definitely does everything she can to get the most out of her classes, even from a distance. She takes a lot of responsibility for her education on herself and holds herself, her classmates, and her teachers accountable to ensure that we are all working cohesively as we help her meet her academic goals. She is always prompt, flexible, engaged, and adds input to any discussion that we have in class.

I would say that her drive and determination, coupled with her flexibility and initiative, make Verity a model hybrid learner. It’s odd to feel like I know a student I’ve never physically met, but I suppose that proves that Verity is really putting in the effort to remain a large part of her classes at The Summit. As with everything in life, you get out of things what you put into things, and Verity has definitely risen to meet this new set of challenges and new opportunities for success.
