This is my 7th year.

Where did you go to college?
Undergraduate from California State University Long Beach. Graduate from Missouri State University.

What was your major?
Bachelor of Arts in English Education and Master of Arts in Teaching.

When you were in school, what was your favorite subject?
I loved the performing arts: theatre, voice, and dance.

Now that you're a teacher, what is your favorite lesson to teach?
I love to teach Shakespeare and mythology among other things.

What made you want to become a teacher?
I've always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with others and coaching people to be the best they can be.

What is your favorite thing about teaching at The Summit?
The opportunities it gives me to engage with my students in new and innovative ways, and the freedom The Summit provides to meet my students where they are and help them grow.

If you could take your class on a field trip anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would love to tour Europe and visit the residences of both the great authors and the various historical sites that they wrote about.

If you had a time machine, what period of time would you travel to (or the future)?
I would love to attend an original Shakespeare performance at The Globe, tour the streets of Victorian London, or see the ancient worlds of Greece, Rome, or Egypt when they were new.

What would you do if you were invisible for a day?
I'd like to think I'd fight crime, but I'd probably use it to annoy rude people.

What's something you think everyone should try at least once?
Travel alone.

What is the next book on your "to be read" list?
I just finished Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and picked up Frank Herbert's Dune as a re-read. For pleasure, I just finished The Alienist by Caleb Carr and plan to read the sequel The Angel of Darkness

Promotional Video Filming On Campus

The Summit is working with Double Jump Media, a local video production company, to update our promotional video. The crew will be on campus Wednesday, September 9th to capture The Summit Difference on film! Come dressed to impress! Culture Fridays

Becoming proficient in a second language is not solely about  memorizing vocabulary, learning new phrases, and conjugating verbs. It is also important to develop a better understanding of the culture of other countries and how their unique qualities compare and contrast to our own. Familiarizing ourselves with another nation's way of life helps to broaden our global lens. This is an important element to The Summit's Spanish program.

Every year, Fridays at The Summit are dedicated to exploring various Spanish-speaking countries around the world, Viernes Culturales

In Lower School, students spend each trimester learning about a different country's geography, flag, coat of arms, popular landmarks, animals, music, and more. 3rd through 5th graders dive a little deeper, by independently researching and creating presentations about their findings.

Upper School takes this one step further by doing their own research on a specific country of their choice and completing a cultural project that is presented in front of their peers. Some past projects include musical performances of an authentic song or dance, cooking demonstrations of an authentic dish, travel videos, board games, and travel brochures.
Now Accepting Applications!

The Summit is still accepting applications for the 2020-2021 school year! We have virtual admissions options and screenings flexible for a variety of family schedules. If you know someone who would love to learn at The Summit, please contact Amy Maas, Summit Admissions Officer.

Don't forget Family Referral Bonuses! Current Summit families who refer a new student to The Summit could receive up to $500 in Growth Fund credit! Email Amy for more details.
Family Business Directory

The Summit will be updating the Family Business Directory for the 2020-2021 school year. The Summit uses the Family Business Directory to build relationships within The Summit community by offering families with businesses the opportunity to list their business information. This directory allows our families to support one another through referrals and patronage.

Participation is completely optional and free of charge. Teachers also use the directory as a reference for potential guest speakers in their classrooms and/or field trip opportunities. If you are interested in being listed in the Family Business Directory, please use this link to submit your information.
