STEM Summit 2020
Dear Summit Families,

On behalf of the STEM Task Force, it is with great enthusiasm that we extend this invitation to join us for the First Annual STEM Summit at The Summit Prep! This two-day event is coming up on March 27th and 28th, 2020. On March 27, the Task Force will be hosting a reception and dinner for our two keynote speakers: Dr. Patricia Reiff, Professor of Astronomy and Physics at Rice University, and Commander Trish Beckman, US Navy aviator and Boeing test pilot.

Saturday, March 28th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., we will host the STEM Summit at The Summit Prep, featuring presentations and exhibits by Dr. Reiff, Cdr. Beckman, and many other area STEM professionals. Please mark your calendars now, and stay tuned through the month for more exciting information!

Attention all 4th-12th grader students in the Ozarks! You are invited to the first annual STEM Summit! Registration is now open to attend this first-of-its-kind event in the Springfield area!

Beginners-3rd Grade Summit Students: You are invited to attend the STEM Street Faire and keynote presentation from Dr. Reiff from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. This invitation is only for Summit students and families in Beginners through 3rd Grade. We hope to see you there!
Purchase Tickets to the STEM Celebration on Friday, March 27th

This adults-only event features a keynote presentation from Professor Patricia Reiff, Director of the Rice Space Institute at Rice University. All proceeds benefit STEM initiatives at The Summit Prep. 

Tickets start at $100 and sponsorships are available. 

This event is open to the entire Ozarks community, so please invite your friends to attend!
Volunteers Needed for STEM Summit

Interested in volunteering on Saturday, March 28th at the first annual STEM Summit? We need your help! We'll need around 40 volunteers to help set-up, tear-down, check-in, and direct foot traffic on this day. Use the link to the right to volunteer.

If you can't make it to the 2020 STEM Summit, you can still order a t-shirt to support this great event! STEM Summit shirts count as Summit Spirit Wear and can be worn on Spirit Wear days at school.

Cost: $15 per student ($5 per adult*)
*Students must be accompanied by an adult
Includes admission to the street faire with dozens of STEM exhibitors, keynote presentation by Dr. Reiff, and two-40 minute, student-centered workshops

Students will have the opportunity to attend two 40-minute workshop sessions at the STEM Summit. Space is limited and workshop are available, first come first served, so be sure to register today!

The VIP reception will provide an opportunity to mingle with guests of honor, Dr. Patricia Reiff and Commander Trish Beckman, and includes complimentary beer, wine, and hors d'oeuvres. There are also a limited number of premiere tickets for seating at either Dr. Reiff or Cdr. Beckman's table during dinner.

General Admission Tickets: $100 per person
VIP Reception: Additional $50 per person
Premiere Tickets (only 12 left!): $200 per person (includes VIP Reception)

Table sponsorships (10 seats) are also available for $1,400. This includes admittance to the VIP Reception for everyone at the table as well as special recognition.

Dr. Patricia Reiff

Professor Patricia Reiff, keynote speaker

We are honored to announce that this year's keynote speaker in internationally-renowned Professor of Physics and Astronomy, Dr. Patricia Reiff, of Rice University. Dr. Reiff is the founding Director of the Rice Space Institute at Rice University. She has been involved in space plasma physics research for over 48 years, with interests in magnetospheric convection, magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling, auroral particle acceleration mechanisms, and "space weather".  She is a Co-Investigator and science education lead for the Magnetospheric Multiscale Mission (MMS), launched March 12, 2015. She has been a PI of educational programs funded by NSF and NASA since 1988 (, including three major programs in collaboration with the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Millions of learners have benefited from software, planetarium shows, web pages, and museum kiosks that she has developed. She has led a number of solar eclipse tours, with the December 2020 total eclipse in Argentina will be her 18th time on the centerline.
Commander Trish Beckman

Commander Trish Beckman, workshop presenter & honoree at Friday's event

Commander Trish Beckman, a Navy Officer, Flight Navigator, Aircraft Dispatcher, and Aeronautical Engineer. Trish Beckman retired from the United States Navy after serving 28 years. She is the first woman to qualify as a crewmember in the F-15E and the first American woman to qualify as a crewmember in the F/A-18D. As a Naval Flight Officer, she flew in 67 types of aircraft. She helped influence the United States Senate to repeal combat exclusion laws and change executive branch policy, allowing women to fly aircraft engaged in combat missions. Trish flew for Boeing Commercial Airplanes Group in Seattle and has more than 6,000 flight hours in 73 total aircraft types. She is a founding board member of Women in Aviation International.

Volunteers Needed
The STEM Summit would not be possible without our volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering on Saturday, March 28th, we'd love your support! We will need help setting up in the morning, tearing down in the afternoon, checking students in during the event, and helping direct students to their workshops around campus.
