Historical Tidbit:
Raynham Iron Works
Iron works were the dominant industry in Raynham for more than two centuries. The importance that was attached to iron works is apparent from the town seal, which depicts the iron works along with the date 1652. The Raynham iron works were not the oldest in the state. Iron works in Lynn, Saugus, and Braintree were started before those in Raynham. However, the iron works in Raynham have the distinction of being the iron "manufactory" that was in continuous operation for the longest period of time. The iron works continued to operate in Raynham until 1873.

Climate Can-Do: Keep the Environment Clean with How You Clean!
We want to keep our homes clean, but we want to keep the environment – home to all living creatures – clean as well. We can do both by using cleaners with less toxic chemicals. These tips can help make your cleaning routines environmentally safer:
Avoid chemicals known to be harmful to skin or respiratory systems, such as ammonia in all-purpose cleaners, non-biodegradable chemicals in dish cleaners, and bleach in laundry cleaners. These chemicals are not only harmful to you but can spread and have harmful effects on the larger environment.
Look for safer alternatives you already have at home. Here are some examples:
- For an all purpose cleaner, try vinegar or hot, soapy water on surfaces like counters and floors.
- For a dish cleaner, try making “washing soda” by mixing baking soda and water together and baking the mixture in the oven.
- For lzaundry cleaner, use “washing soda” or borax instead of bleach.
Visit the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website to find “Safer Choice-Certified” alternatives and keep an eye out for EPA’s “Safer Choice Label” when shopping for cleaning products.
Together, we can help make the environment cleaner by changing how we clean!

Bridgewater-Raynham Students Stand Against Smoking and Vaping
On Thursday, Apr 3, students from the Bridgewater-Raynham School District went to the State House to stand against tobacco and vaping institutions as a part of the 84 Movement.
According to the 84 Movement website, "84 represents the 84% of Massachusetts high school youth who did NOT smoke cigarettes when the movement began. As of 2023, almost 97% of MA high school youth do NOT smoke cigarettes, and 84% do NOT vape."
Youth groups in a school or community organization who want to fight against the tobacco and vaping industries sign up to become an 84 Chapter with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Tobacco Cessation and Prevention Program. They are given training and materials to educate peers and adults on manipulative marketing tactics used by tobacco and vaping institutions.

State Representative Dennis C. Gallagher gave praise to these students' efforts.
"So nice to see Bridgewater/Raynham students from the 84 Movement today at the State House.
I had great opportunity to hear from them in regards to their campaign against tobacco and vaping. I also was able to bring them into the House Chamber and show them around!" Reposted from State Representative Dennis C. Gallagher FB page.
