Raystown Lake Region
E-NEWSLETTER for TRAVELERS
Raystown Lake Region Events through August 6
July 29, 2013
Greetings!

Greetings from the Raystown Lake Region of The Alleghenies in PA!

I am looking forward to the Shade Gap Picnic which continues through 8/3 -- always a fun time and great food. The Broad Top Area Coal Miners Heritage Days and Robertsdale Community Day 8/2-4 is another great event and a good way to connect with the industrial history of Huntingdon County at the Broad Top Coal Miners Museum and at the FEBT East Broad Top Railroad Station Museum.

The FREE Tuesday Morning Visitor Wake-UP Reception series hosted by the Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau runs Tuesdays through August 13 at the Raystown Lake Region Visitor Center. Each Tuesday 9:30a-10:30a. Details below. Tuesday, July 30 is "Get Outside with Your Map!" and Helicopter Day -- with Purple Lizard Maps and Rothrock Outfitters exhibiting maps and speaking about the outdoor opportunities in the Raystown Lake Region. Why is it helicopter day also, you may ask? Because Pine Bottom Aviation will be on hand WITH A HELICOPTER (weather permitting) to discuss aerial tours of Raystown Lake!

Click to Raystown.org/events to see the full list of events of all the great things going on throughout the Raystown Lake Region.

You can always call our office toll free at (888) 729-7869 to request a current copy of the Huntingdon County Visitors Guide or to ask questions prior to or during your trip to the Raystown Lake Region.

Have a great day! Maybe I'll see you at the Wake-Up Receptions or at the Star Party (details below) on 8/3.

Come to Indian Caverns on Tuesday, July 30 at 6pm for a photography tour. For amateur and professional photographers alike, the 1 hour tour of World Famous Indian Caverns just isn't enough time to frame and capture the beauty inside the cave. We are excited to be able to say that in this summer we are opening up the cave after hours each and every Tuesday for avid photographers to spend 1 1/2 hours inside the cave with their equipment. Along with a professional photographer and cave expert, we were thrilled to give you the chance to experience and capture the cave as few others get to enjoy. The 90 minute hour tour includes a brief seminar on "do's and don'ts" of cave photography, tips for f-stop use and lighting techniques as well as access to parts of the cave not normally covered during a regular tour. Photographers work at their own pace, on the subjects that they choose and can leave the cave at any time to use the restroom or warm up (it's a constant 56 degrees in the cave) We are excited to offer this opportunity and will make it one of the most pleasant photographic opportunities available. Cost is $20 per person. For more information contact Indian Caverns at (814) 632-7578 or visit www.indiancaverns.com

Come to Shaver's Creek Environmental Center on Saturday, August 3 at 7pm for Migration Fire by Friction. Due to popular demand, we are offering a second primitive fire-building program! Come and try your hand at using a bow drill, striking flint and steel, and making your own char cloth. Blow embers into flames like our ancestors used to do. Be sure to stick around for the campfire at the end with s'mores and music! We recommend this for people ages 8 and up. We will provide all of the materials needed. Please call Shavers Creek to register. This program is FREE to members. We suggest a $5 / person donation for non-members. Public programs are made possible by the generous support of our members. For more information contact Shavers Creek Environmental Center at (814) 863-2000 or visit www.shaverscreek.org

Enjoy Move Over, Mrs. Markham by John Chapman and Ray Cooney at The Playhouse in McConnellstown on August 4! To Sylvie it's the goose, but to Phillip, Joanna Markham's husband, it's a variety of geese, and fifteen years of marriage is just about undone along with everything else in this wild zany free for all. Everything from Alistair's near escape from Joanna's chiding seduction to the naked GPO girl and the specter of scandal is hilarious. A lot of bed-hopping occurs as Sylvie winds up taking Alistair on walkies and the amazing Mrs. Markham gets her man! Natures Darkroom at Indian Caverns

http://raystown.org/events/natrs-drkrm-at-inc2
5374 Indian Trail Spruce Creek 16683
Come to Indian Caverns on Tuesday, August 6 at 6pm for a photography tour. Along with a professional photographer and cave expert, we are thrilled to give you the chance to experience and capture the cave as few others get to enjoy. For more information contact Indian Caverns at (814) 632-7578.
