Student Of the Week

Sixth-grader Cathrine Kesler is Student of the Week for the IB Trait of Balanced. Catherine believes she became Student of the Week because she is very helpful and friendly.

In her free time, Catherine loves to play softball and go shopping. She thinks all the activities are fun and they get her out of the house.

Someone who inspires Catherine is Teagen Kaban.

“Teagen Kaban inspires me because she is a good person and a great softball player,” she said.

She wants to go to college and get into a sports management program. After that, she wants to be a manager for the San Diego Padres.

Art is Catherine's favorite subject because Ms. Jones is very nice, and it is fun.

“One tip to be successful is if you have homework, get it done in tiny chunks so eventually you get it done,” she said.

Catherine is excited for getting fun classes and the end of Hogg Business Club when they get their money. She has a mini Australian Shepherd named Skittles.

Seventh grader Maiya Carroll is our Student of the Week because she exhibits the IB Leaner trait of COMMUNICATOR! Maiya expresses herself clearly, and gets her ideas across.

Maiya enjoys science class, which she enjoys because of how engaging it is to learn. She loves how fun and easy it is!

As well as loving Hogg, her favorite memory was her sixth- grade field trip to Seaword. Although she doesn’t have any animals, she fills her free time with playing board games and doing hair outside of school.

When she grows up, she dreams of becoming a model, because she's pretty.

Her mom means everything to her. She inspires her to never give up, and she loves how her mom always checks in to make sure she’s alright, giving her the strength to keep going.

Her words of inspiration are, “Focus on the good, not bad.”

Catherine Garcia, an eighth grader, is Student of the Week for representing the IB Trait Risk-Taker.

She thinks she earned this title because she always says what she thinks out loud even if it's the wrong answer.

Someone who inspires Catherine is her dad because he is smart and organized.

“My dad inspires me because he is super smart and was always a good student when he was in school,” she said.

Mr. Baker nominated Catherine because she is always engaged in what is going on and gives 100 percent everyday.

Catherine wants to go to HSPVA for art and plans to go to University of Houston. Catherine loves art because “you can make art out of basically anything and it will be beautiful in its own way.”

One of her favorite subjects in school is the U.S. History because she likes learning about how the world and how people have developed. She also likes learning about historical figures.

“I like it because it is cool to learn about the past and how people evolved,” she said.

Catherine’s favorite Hogg memory was the seventh grade field trip to Galveston because she had never gone to the beach, and she liked seeing all of the animals. She also liked hanging out with her friends while she was there.

One tip that Catherine would tell sixth graders is to not be hard on yourself because “life will take you where you need to be.”
