HOGG LITERACY CELEBRATES
ONE BOOK ONE SCHOOL,
HOGG'S 1ST PUBLISHED BOOKLET: "THE FLYING PIG",
AND MASKED READER EVENT.
|
|
The Flying Pig celebrates Hogg students as authors and creators who were winners from our writing, art and design contest. It was distributed to classrooms today and is available at the Hogg Front desk for those who might want a copy! A big shout out to Ms. Ozanic and Mr. Powell's classes who made the judging so hard that we doubled the prizes given! Winners were recognized at last Thursday's amazing Masked Reader Night.
Hogg and our Literacy Team, Ms. Chance, Ms. Brown, Ms. Kramers and Ms. Crump, created a virtual event that the whole family could enjoy! Our Houston celebrities were amazing! Students got a peek of who they were in homeroom on Friday and will learn more about them in Homeroom this week as we reveal their accomplishments. Each masked reader shared a message with our Hogg students about reading and life. Super sweet moments! The evening ended with a Q&A from our 1 Book 1 School author, Carlos Hernandez. He had so many great things to convey to our students about writing - from perspective & motivation to process & choices. Can't wait to see what our theme is next year!

In our 1B1S, the main characters, Sal and Gabi, eat a lot of Cuban and Mexican food! The author, Carlos Hernandez's descriptions will make your mouth water the same way El Rey's delicious food does! Did you know El Rey serves traditional Cuban dishes like Ropa Vieja and vegan tacos with black beans and plantains?
Mr. Hugo Gonzalez, the manager at El Rey on Yale & 610, has donated a $50 in plastic-square food vouchers as a PRIZE on Literacy Night! Please help support his establishment and thank him for his support of our school.
