Student Of the Week

Jackson Jordan is the sixth-grade Student of the week because he embodies the IB Trait Thinker.

English teacher Mr. O’Quinn said Jackson is “always on task”, which is why he earned this recognition.

Jackson loves to play baseball after school.

“I plan on trying out for the baseball team this year,” Jackson said.

Jackson is inspired by his dad because he used to play sports when he was younger as well.

“My dad played baseball and basketball when he was younger,” he said.

Jackson’s current favorite subject is English or tech because he really likes his teachers for those classes.

Jackson wants to go to the University of Texas for college and hopes to get drafted into the MLB.

Jackson said, “If I get drafted into the MLB, I want to get drafted for the Astros.”

The thing Jackson is most excited for at Hogg is to get to know everybody.

Jackson’s tip on how to be successful is to pay attention, and try to do your best.

He doesn’t have any pets but hopes to have a Corgi when he grows up.

His future plans or option for high school is any school that is science related or focused.

His dad inspires him and was the person who introduced him to science.

One of his favorite memories at Hogg is passing time with his friends.

His advice to future kids is to not procrastinate.

Eighth grader Chase Maresh is this week’s Student of the Week for demonstrating the IB Trait of Inquirer.

Chase believes he earned this recognition because he’s always curious.

“I ask a lot of questions,” he said.

Outside of school, Chase enjoys reading. It’s one of the things he enjoys and also keeps learning at the same time. He especially likes reading fantasy books.

He is inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.

“I like his speeches,” Chase said.

For his future, Chase wants to be an engineer and attend Texas A&M University.

“I want to go to A&M so I can get some type of engineering degree,” he said.

One of his favorite memories at Hogg are school spirit days because he doesn’t have to wear a collared shirt.

Chase also shared his tip for success is to concentrate.

“Focus on school,” he said.

He believes staying on track now will help him later.

At home, Chase has a dog named Ginger, a Retriever who is always by his side.

High School Fair at Hogg Middle School

The high school fair at Hogg Middle School went exceptionally well on Tuesday.

A total of 366 eighth graders attended, showing strong student engagement and interest in exploring their future academic options.

With 27 high schools participating, students had access to a wide range of programs, including IB, STEM, Magnet, Fine Arts, and Career & Technical pathways, allowing them to ask questions, gather materials, and make informed decisions about where they might thrive next year.

The event ran smoothly thanks to clear organization, active teacher supervision, and strong collaboration between school staff, counselors, and visiting representatives.

This event was important because it directly supports college and career readiness by helping students connect their middle school achievements to high school opportunities.

It also promotes equitable access to advanced and specialized programs that can shape students’ academic trajectories early on.

By hosting the fair on campus, Hogg empowered all students, especially those who might not have access to such information otherwise, to take ownership of their educational journey and envision themselves as future graduates. The fair reinforced Hogg’s commitment to preparing global, confident learners ready to succeed in high school and beyond.

Theater Students Impress in "After Juliet"

The Hogg Theater Group performed "After Juliet" on Wednesday and Thursday in the auditorium. The show was packed with drama, including revenge, sword fights, and even tender moments. They performed this piece at the UIL Theater competition, which requires them to set up in seven minutes and take down in seven minutes. "After Juliet" serves as a sequel to Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet".
