Erik Maya is the sixth-grade Student of the Week for the IB Trait Caring. French teacher, Ms. Tran nominated him.
“I think I was recognized as caring because I do my work, and I help someone who needs it,” he said.
In school, band is his favorite subject. He plays the trombone.
“I have a lot of fun playing music,” he said.
Erik is a forward thinker and has ambition.
“I am most excited for getting all my credits from my advanced classes, when I go to high school. I plan to graduate from a good college and get a good paying career in construction,” he said.
His inspiration comes from his parents.
“My mom and dad inspire me because of their advice, and my family keeps me going with their support,” he said.
Outside of school, Erik enjoys playing video games and going to boxing practice at Central Boxing Academy.
“I used to watch boxing matches with my dad. He put me in when I was eight,” he said.
His key to success is persistence and take chances.
“Take the risk to achieve your goal even if you’re scared, and try even harder if you fail,” he said.
