Hogg's Cheer Squad Dominates at Competition

(Tryout information in flyers further down.)

Last Saturday, the Hogg Cheer Squad competed in the Redline Cheer and Dance Championships at the Berry Center in Cypress, Texas. This was the Hogg's first big competition under the Direction of Coach Skinner. Hogg competed in the Game Day Division and placed 1st place in their Division. Congratulations!!

The Hogg Robotics Team has been Busy!

The Hogg Robotics Team goes by the name of "Power Rangers". They compete in the First Robotics FTC League, which is a mixed high school and middle school competition.

They did quite well at the last competition, placing 5th out of 12 teams and besting some high schools in the process! The Hogg Robotics Team has had a competition nearly every weekend! With every competition they have improved their standings. They have ambitions to place in the top three of their next competition.

Recently, the Energy High School robotics team stopped by Hogg to check out Hogg's team. Energy HS is home to a few Hogg alumni including Sophie Yu, Remi Yu, and Adelle Forester. They coordinated with our team to hold an interest and mentorship meeting to promote their program and help our team along in their design process. It was great to see the previous robotics students thriving at Energy High!

The Hogg Robotics Team is lead by Hogg's College and Career Readiness teacher, Mr. Martinez. If you would like to be involved or have questions, please reach out to him [email protected].

Hogg Swim Team Hosting Open Swim Clinics!

Last Wednesday the Hogg Swim Team and Swim Club held their first annual "fun meet". The idea came to coach Laura Thompson after two of our scheduled meets were cancelled consecutively. Swimmers of all grade levels competed in 50-meter timed races to determine the fastest swimmers in each of the four stroke styles.

Once we reach the post-season, Hogg will hold swim clinics open for all students interested in learning racing technique and joining the team next year. Details have not been discussed yet, so stay tuned!

The Hogg Swim Team is lead by Hogg's College and Career Readiness teacher, Mr. Martinez. If you would like to be involved or have questions, please reach out to him [email protected].

Hogg Celebrated Ms. J during National School Counselor's Week

Ms. J works hard to maintain the well being and emotional health of Hogg students. Her efforts nurture an inclusive atmosphere. Her steady presence and commitment to Hogg students is what we love about Ms. J, our school counselor.

Attendance Policy Information

When a student is absent, a signed parent note or physician’s note must be submitted to the campus attendance office within three (3) days of student’s return to school. The parent note should include the student’s name and grade, reason for absence, telephone number, and signature of parent or guardian. If a note is not provided, the absence will be counted as unexcused. It is the parent’s responsibility to monitor a student’s school attendance and require the student to attend each entire class period for every school day.

PDF Format only, for physician’s notes if emailed. Please contact Mrs. Ramirez a[email protected], if you have any concerns regarding attendance.

Attendance guidelines can be found on page 11 if the school handbook.

Cell Phone Policy

As is current policy, student cell-phone use will not be allowed in HISD schools during the academic day. Student use of phones during the academic day disrupts learning and instruction, fuels disputes between students, and undermines the culture we are working to create in all HISD campuses.

Students must leave their cell phones at home or in their backpacks. Should a teacher or administrator see a cell phone on a student’s person (even if it is in a pocket, but visible) or being used by a student, the teacher or administrator will:

  1. Ask the student to hand over the mobile phone.
  2. Put the student’s name on the phone (as with a sticky note), and
  3. Take it to the office.

The first time a student has a mobile phone taken to the office, that student may pick up the cell phone from the front office after school. If a student violates this rule a second time, the cell phone will be returned to a parent or guardian who must come to the school by 4:30pm to retrieve it.

You can find the Cell Phone Policy on page 10 of the school handbook.
