Incentive to Stay on Campus Helps Local Businesses |
|
UC Davis: As universities vie to keep students on campus over spring break amid concerns about travel during the coronavirus pandemic, one institution is offering a financial incentive. The University of California, Davis is providing $75 grants to students who stay in the northern California college town during its spring break later this month. “UC Davis asks everyone in the university community to avoid all nonessential travel during spring break,” Chancellor Gary May wrote in an update to the school community last week that highlighted the city-campus partnership. The first 750 students who qualify will receive the $75 grant, which can be redeemed at select Davis businesses during the school’s spring break, from March 22 to 26. Applicants must be current registered UC Davis students who live full-time in Davis. They also must be staying in town for the entire spring break and have a scheduled COVID-19 test during it. Recipients of the awards will be recognized at the 2021 virtual ITGA City & University Relations Conference in May. Submissions are due Monday, April 19. 2021 Communities Talk to Prevent Underage Drinking |

Registration for the 2021 Communities Talk to Prevent Underage Drinking cycle is officially open! This means colleges and universities can now register to receive a $750 planning stipend. Check out the Communities Talk Tips and Resources section for planning tools, recommendations on how to organize your activity, and ideas for different activity formats (including virtual options). If you would like to host an event anytime before the end of calendar year 2021 and receive a planning stipend, please email info@stopalcoholabuse.net with your contact information and campus affiliation. How the Pandemic may have Altered Campuses |
|
The Chronicle asked more than 40 architects, campus planners, and leaders in student life and housing about how several categories of campus spaces might look different in the future. As colleges navigate difficult financial straits, many interviewees predicted more public-private partnerships, and renovations instead of new construction — which can be less costly and more environmentally friendly. Overall, their answers paint a picture of future campuses that are more adaptable, perhaps smaller, and focused on what’s most valuable about seeing one’s peers in person. Hybrid and online learning may also help colleges deal with shrinking budgets. The Chronicle of Higher Education

Is 'Homeworking' the New Normal? |
|
According to most commentators, it appears almost certain that homeworking will be integral to the oft-discussed new normal once the pandemic subsides. Employees have often found they like working at home and report their performance is unaffected or even better for it. And universities seem ripe to be central to this trend − but is this inevitable or even desirable? Big choices are incoming for universities and their staff, choices that require careful consideration to avoid sleepwalking down the assumed-inevitable path of a digitalised society. The pandemic has provided an unplanned experiment in homeworking, and not pondering the role of homeworking for universities in depth would be to miss a unique opportunity to exercise evidence-based management, reinvigorate employee involvement and extend employees’ choice. We need you! As a member of ITGA, you have the privilege of nominating yourself or another member to serve on the ITGA Board of Directors. We are seeking dynamic professionals who want to take a more active role in ITGA by serving in a leadership position. This organization is only as good as its members and the talents they bring to the leadership team will help shape the organization for the future. Board of Director roles and responsibilities include attending quarterly meetings, serving on a committee, and acting as an ambassador for the organization. The time commitment varies depending on your level of involvement. The openings are for two or three year terms, beginning July 1, 2021.
