Sara Cobb Takes Leadership of Inmate Letter Writing Team at UNITE INDY
With a constantly growing number of inmates who write in search of a caring friend with whom to correspond, we were in need of someone with a big heart and excellent organizational skills to lead the group. Sara Cobb has all that and more. She is pictured on the left, with UNITE INDY Co-Founder Nancy Cotterill and Director of Outreach Sherry Jackson. As our new point person, Sara will work to match letter writers with inmates, help them work within the limits of prison regulations, and organize zoom meetings so that our letter writers can share their experiences and get advice. Sara is a veteran letter writer herself, having been blessed by the experience of writing an inmate named Jimmy for many months. We are so happy to welcome her into this important area of our work!

COVID Stats Updated at Monthly Race & Cultural Relations Leadership Network Meeting
Virginia A. Caine, M.D., Director of Marion County Public Health Department (pictured) discussed the department's goal to get Indiana to less than 35 cases per day and under 5% of the population. The situation has improved drastically from a December average of 1,000 cases per day to a current 123 cases per day, and fewer than one COVID-related death per day.

Of those 65 and older: 58% of Latinos have been vaccinated, 49% of Whites, 48% of Blacks, and 45% of the Asian population here. Between ages 25-44: the percentages are 12.1% of Whites, 6.7% of Asians, 5.5% of Latinos, and 4% of Blacks have been vaccinated. Angels Among Us: Names Withheld
This is one of those great stories where everyone is anonymous, but it all happened here in the last few months and days.
It begins with a man who was serving time in prison. We’ll call him Paul. When he was released he went to live in faith-based transitional housing. But, the clock was ticking. He had been given a certain amount of time to find a job and save enough money to rent a place to live or go back to prison...Check out Nancy's Blog!

Support of Ministries and Charities:
Since 2017 UNITE INDY has provided a free web-based system at UNITEINDY.org that connects churches, ministries, and other charities to share their volunteer needs or needed items. UNITE INDY also provides the manpower necessary to assist smaller organizations—that have no one to upload needed items—the help they require to access this service. Through this portal, UNITE INDY has brought hundreds of volunteers and thousands of dollars worth of needed goods into the hands of those who assist the poor.
Serving the Servants:
UNITE INDY comes behind urban pastors and ministry leaders by addressing personal and professional needs with free services for those who work tirelessly in their neighborhoods to care for the needy and bereft.
Remember, almost 1 out of every 3 children in Indianapolis lives below the poverty level, yet even in the aftermath of the shut down, as our economy comes back to life and employment is returning, all this good news stops at the lines surrounding many of our inner city neighborhoods. In some neighborhoods of Marion County unemployment is now 21%, and poverty remains the overwhelming divider of people.
Please donate to UNITE INDY now. There are a number of choices that are all secure and safe. By sending your fully tax deductible gift* now we can have a greater impact meeting needs in our community in 2021.
Many, many thanks!
*UNITE INDY, Inc. is approved under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501(c)(3) as a Public Charity, donors can deduct contributions they make under IRC Section 170.
