Did you know? The building that currently houses the Given Tufts Bookshop was originally the village's post office -- a 1934 New Deal center of activity in the village -- until the local population outgrew the space.
In 2011, mail operations relocated to the current space on NC-5, and the historic post office sat vacant for nearly half a decade -- that is, until the Given Tufts Foundation raised its hand and breathed new life into the once bustling hub.
In 2015, the Foundation opened its doors and introduced the Outpost -- a rentable event venue in the heart of downtown Pinehurst -- along with its now renowned bookshop. Prized chef Mark Elliott soon joined the party with the cleverly named Roast Office coffee shop, and the building has maintained its status as village center ever since.
Now, in a nod to its architectural history, the Given Tufts Foundation has embarked on a rebrand of sorts around the building these days commonly referred to as 'the Roast Office."
The Outpost will once again provide space rentals for parties, events, and celebrations, in addition to hosting community events of its own -- all in an effort to harken back to its Pinehurst history, and remind locals and visitors alike how storied that history has been.
