Skillshare Series
Our Five-Part Fund Development Series is Back! (May 3–12)
How Grants Work
(May 3)

This introductory skillshare provides participants with a general overview of the basic steps necessary to successfully plan, develop, and submit grant applications in a timely and effective manner. Includes:
  • Planning programs and budgets before seeking grants
  • Researching grant opportunities
  • Approaching and developing relationships with grantmakers before applying
  • Preparing typical grant information and materials
Pre-Grant Planning and
Budgeting (May 5)

Planning the programs and projects your organization seeks to fund, and developing realistic budgets that determine your funding needs, as well as the amounts and uses of your grant requests. Topics include:
  • Starting with outcomes and objectives, and devising plans to achieve them
  • Creating budgets that reflect your organization / programs
  • Formatting and presenting budgets in funding proposals
  • Tracking, measuring, and evaluating a program’s success
Researching and Approaching Grantmakers (May 7)

The basics of identifying grantmakers and assessing how their interests and goals mesh with your organization and its programs:
  • Sources and methods for researching and selecting grant opportunities
  • Introducing your organization and its needs to a grantmaker to obtain their input, guidance, and an 'invitation' to apply
  • Using e-mail, phonecalls, and letters to communicate with grantmakers
Preparing and Submitting
Grant Proposals (May 10)

Time-saving approaches to gathering and preparing commonly-requested information that you can use for every proposal to potential funders:
  • Preparing standard application materials (proposal narrative, budget, attachments, etc)
  • Developing grant proposals in accordance with your fundraising plan and calendar
  • Following up on proposals after submission, and again after a grantmaker decides whether to fund your project
Your Grant Questions, Answered (May 12): The final skillshare in the series is a full 90-minute session devoted to answering your questions on any and all aspects of grantseeking. This Q&A session is a very cost-effective way to seek a grantwriting consultant's feedback on your funding proposal, as well as to learn from other participants' real-world experiences and advice.
The cost of the five-session grants-focused skillshare series is $200. (Inquire about group discounts.) Space is limited, and we do not anticipate opening registration to allow single skillshare sessions.
