James and Esther's home, a 1970's single-story house in Chesterfield, desperately needed help. Termites had damaged the foundation of the house, causing it to lean and putting the floors at risk of caving in. Unable to hire contractors to fix the extensive repairs, the couple feared they might lose their beloved home of 45 years. Fortunately, they contacted Rebuilding Together Richmond. Through our Critical Home Repair Program, contractors from Affordable Crawlspace Care LLC replaced over 20 feet of a rotten girder and 20 rotten and missing joists, treated mold in the area, and insulated and sealed the crawlspace.

Additionally, as the crew began finishing the project, they noticed hidden damage on the other side of the crawlspace unrelated to the original scope of work. We had already spent our budget, but that didn't stop the team from going the extra mile and addressing the issue. "I did not want to leave their home close to perfect just to find this problem after the fact," said Chris Harry, owner of Affordable Crawlspace LLC. "So we fixed the issue because it's the right thing to do! We appreciate the opportunity to do something like this for this nice couple. It was literally our pleasure to help."  Chris and his team spent the next six hours of their own time and donated $2,500 in materials to ensure that every bit of the home's foundation was sturdy, new, and protected from termites.
