In case you missed it, the latest Office of Research Town Hall focused on the current state of Graduate Student Researcher (GSR) and postdoctoral scholar salaries, national advocacy efforts for additional resources, and federally allowable mechanisms for providing additional salary support to NIH-funded GSRs and postdoctoral scholars.

UCSF Requests Faculty, Staff Complete Out-of-Date Mandatory Trainings 
UCSF has launched an enterprise-wide effort to improve compliance rates for mandatory trainings, a priority monitored by the University of California Office of the President. These trainings address important issues across the entire UC enterprise, including bolstering knowledge of cybersecurity, preventing harassment, supporting a diverse and equitable community, and addressing ethical issues like financial disclosures. 

Being compliant with these trainings is everyone’s responsibility and directly tie into honoring the University’s PRIDE Values of professionalism, respect, integrity, diversity and excellence. Learn more and complete your overdue trainings. 
New Clinical Trial Excellence Campaign (CTEC) Resources Available

The US Deprescribing Research Network, co-led by UCSF’s Mike Steinman, MD, is an NIH-funded research network that supports research on deprescribing and medication use in older adults. UCSF Awarded Institutional Excellence in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Prize
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Institutional Excellence in DEIA in Biomedical and Behavioral Research Prize Competition recognized UCSF among 10 U.S. post-secondary education institutions with a $100,000 prize for "implementing strategies to enhance DEIA in research environments." Disruption to Gift Cards for Research
Supply Chain Management (SCM) understands the potential disruption to research caused by the retirement of the National Gift Card punch-out catalog. SCM is actively engaged in providing additional solutions to mitigate further disruption and is committed to maintaining communication as updates and solutions unfold. Learn more.
Seminar: "How Does Diversity Impact Innovation in Team Science?”
Associate Vice Chancellor, Research – Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Anti-Racism (IDEA) Tung Nguyen, MD, will speak on this panel about how diverse perspectives in science benefit the scientific enterprise. Register for the March 13 virtual event.
Funding and Fellowship Opportunities
New administrative supplements aim to support research on bioethical issues that either inform future policy directions or augment bioethics research capacity. Deadline: April 1.

The Last Mile Grant Supplements support the dissemination of completed research (either one study or a body of research) to policymakers in governmental and non-governmental sectors. Deadline: March 4.

The Resource Allocation Program (RAP) announces the Spring 2024 funding cycle. Deadline: March 4.

The program will solicit innovative collaborative proposals that fuel innovation in precision medicine by fostering creative, high-risk, and high-impact projects in basic science and extending into the continuum toward improved patient outcomes. Stay tuned for more information and contact Gretchen Kiser with questions.

To encourage broadly engaged team science, this $75k pilot award allows applicants to include a community partner as a paid co-investigator. Deadline: March 4.

Postdoctoral fellowship funding available for two clinician investigators starting July 1, 2024. CRISP fellows receive in-depth training in data science methods, conduct a mentored research project, and participate in regular work-in-progress sessions. Deadline: April 1.
New Policies and Requirements
A friendly reminder to researchers who want to revise their approved NIH Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Plan. A prior approval request for the revision must be submitted by an AOR using the prior approval module in eRA Commons.

Attention NIH grantees and cooperative agreement holders. NIH is reporting awards that were unilaterally closed out due to delinquent closeout reports as a Responsibility/Qualification in SAM.gov beginning with actions taken since January 1, 2023.

Effective May 25, 2024, this replaces previous guidance on marking changes in resubmission applications.

Awarded via a settlement with Juul Labs, so far 280,000 of 4 million internal documents from the electronic cigarette maker have been uploaded by the Industry Documents Library to a free public depository for discovery.

All UCSF employees in contact with animals or their tissues must complete the online Medical Health Screening (MHS) questionnaire. It assesses potential employee risks linked to the care and use of research animals at UCSF, ensuring your safety and well-being.

Infrastructure and Operations
