Seeking Researchers: Focus Group on Freezer Replacement
Strategic Sourcing Manager Dean Shehu is asking for principal investigators and lab managers to volunteer one hour of their time to participate in a focus group for the UCSF Ultra-low temperature (ULT) Freezer Replacement Program. Attendees will receive a $20 gift card.

What is the ULT Freezer Replacement Program?
UCSF operates over 1,250 -80°C freezers, with over two-thirds of those being older non-energy-efficient models that use three times as much energy as ENERGY-STAR Certified -80°C freezers. Completely transitioning UCSF to energy efficient ULT freezers will help meet our annual energy use reduction target of 2% and save UCSF over $1.3 million dollars per year in energy costs.

The Office of Research is partnering with Office of Sustainability, Supply Chain Management, and Facilities to create a strategy to accelerate UCSF’s transition to 100% ENERGY-STAR units. We are seeking input from the research community on how to optimally implement this program. Focus groups will be held:
  • May 24, noon - 1 p.m.
  • May 26, 8-9 a.m.
  • May 26, noon - 1 p.m.
  • May 26, 4-5 p.m.

Please respond with your availability via ULT Focus Group Sign-ups for all options that would work. We will send you an invite after we have created the roster for each session. Please contact Dean.Shehu@ucsf.edu with questions.
Cardiology Research Biorepository Implements New Biospecimen Management System
The Biospecimen Informatics Program (BSIP) is thrilled to announce that the UCSF Cardiology Research Biorepository (CRB) is now utilizing the MBioLIMS sample management system. CRB launched with three studies in the system and plans to roll out five additional studies later this year. These studies will be supported by Cardiology Research Biorepository researchers, CRCs, and lab staff and will contain high-quality biospecimen data which can be reported on using MBioLIMS’ built-in search tools.

MBioLIMS biospecimen management system is cutting-edge software that streamlines sample tracking, improves data accuracy, and optimizes laboratory workflow. With its user-friendly interface and advanced features, MBioLIMS is an excellent solution for any laboratory seeking to enhance efficiency and accuracy. For more information on access to the MBioLIMS biospecimen management system at UCSF or BSIP’s other products and services, please contact Support.MBioLIMS@ucsf.edu.

The launch of CRB into MBioLIMS was smooth and successful in great part due to the hard work of Emily Wilson, Nicola Gabancho, Emily Davis, Vincent Te, and Sudeep Basnet.
Now Online: UCSF Global Hub
The UCSF Global Hub webpage is now live! This new resource was developed to provide the UCSF community and external partners with a comprehensive directory of internationally focused institutes, programs, individuals, resources, and support services at UCSF and in the Bay Area. Developed by the EVCP and International Students & Scholars Offices, with review and feedback from a number of other UCSF units, the goals of this website include directing questions, sharing resources, increasing collaboration, and highlighting the global footprint of UCSF.
Call for Volunteers: UCSF Disability Awareness Campaign
The Office of Communications is seeking faculty and staff with disabilities willing to share their stories as part of a new campaign to raise awareness of the full scope of disability resources offered at UCSF and to foster a sense of belonging of all people. Initiated by the UCSF Academic Senate, this campaign will highlight the challenges and achievements of faculty and staff with disabilities.

Participation in this campaign is voluntary. Faculty and staff will have an opportunity to review how their name and likeness as a person with a disability will be displayed publicly on UCSF’s channels prior to publication. If you are interested in being featured or would like to learn more, please contact Lisa.Cisneros@ucsf.edu.
