Build season is here! I finally got to swing a hammer and what a joyous occasion it was! If you have seen me in the community recently, you have probably heard me say one of two things: “I’ve got the best job in McLean County,” or “This is the best job I’ve ever had.” As I’ve written before, this is based on my experience with our dedicated staff, Board, and volunteers.
Building homes and building hope is what Habitat McLean is all about. When we keep God at the center, He will provide. In the last month, God provided us Adrienne White’s family with whom we celebrated a ground breaking. This deserving family has worked hard to turn a shovel in the ground. Their home is partially sponsored by Women Build, a group of diverse women which God has provided us to nail, lift, and paint this family a better future.
On the same day, Habitat celebrated a house blessing, marking the Seale Family’s completed journey to home ownership. God provided them with dozens of volunteers who built alongside them, including students from ISU & IWU. We were delighted to share this blessing with their Priest and break bread in their new home for the very first time. I imagine a lifetime of memories for them in this house.
The past two Saturdays this month, we built walls with the Knights of Columbus at St Patrick’s of Merna and with ThriventFinancial at Northside Church of Christ. Around 60 volunteers each Saturday put their faith in action and built all the interior and exterior walls for two, two-story homes. This weekend we are out again building walls with our friends from Calvary Methodist, Wesley Methodist and First United Methodist. Fellowship and prayers will follow these homes to there build sites.
Habitat has kept God at the Center, and He has provided. Thank you all for your continued support.
