international impact | global village trips

We will soon embark on our first ever Global Village Trip to Chiapas, Mexico ! In order to learn how to lead our own trip with San Diego Habitat supporters this coming spring, we are sending two staff representatives to Chiapas. In December, Lori Holt Pfeiler (President & CEO) and Joanna Shively (Donor Stewardship & Events Manager) travel to build homes for local families in Chiapas! They will be joining a small group of Habitat supporters from around the nation, and will get to build, learn, and experience all of Chiapas. You will be able to see their progress and read about their trip on our social media channels . Follow their story to find out if you are interested in joining us for our Global Village trip in 2019!
Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village trips are a short-term service experiences where you can volunteer abroad or in your home country with Habitat for Humanity. These trips not only utilize your skills to build safe, affordable houses in places where they are desperately needed, but also give you an opportunity to see another culture up-close and to live like a local.

the gift that keeps on building
San Diego Habitat recently received a generous bequest of $175,000 from a long-time donor. When he passed away, he made sure his loved ones were taken care of. With a simple bequest in his trust, arrangements were made to leave the remainder of his money to the organizations he supported during his lifetime. We honor his legacy by putting half of the contribution toward building and repairing homes this fall, and placing the other half into a revolving capital reserve that will enable us to build continuously in the future. He truly gave a gift that will keep on giving!
Many of our supporters and volunteers wish they could give even more, but feel there is just no leeway in the family budget. With a little creativity, planned gifts can allow us to give more later than we are able to give today. A bequest of even $5,000 will help to build decent and affordable homes for families in need. A planned gift to Habitat is a wonderful way to make sure you have the resources you need now, and at the same time establishing a legacy that significantly helps change lives for local families.
Talk to your professional advisor to see how a planned gift might work for you and your family. For more information about a planned gift for San Diego Habitat, contact Karen Begin at 619-906-4482 or karen.begin@sandiegohabitat.org .
