Hello, Reachers!
Welcome to the first of our new-and-improved e-Blasts to keep you informed about the goings on at Reach Arts. Artists -- please send your news for our next e-Blast to Ingrid.Pichler@reacharts.org.
SAA Summer Show at Grosvenor Park Ends July 27th
With renovations in our building underway, The Swampscott Art Association has once again hung its Summer Show at Grosvenor Park Health Center in Vinnin Square. The SAA is a welcoming organization that offers 4 non-juried shows each year for artists and photographers. Receptions are held, and ribbons and prizes are awarded by accredited judges. Ruth Rooks, president of the SAA, and Barbara Gherzi, past president, both sit as directors on the Reach Arts board and cannot wait to deck our halls!

Burrill Street Building Update — A Recording Studio
Our general contractor, Leland Hussey, who also serves on the Executive Board as Vice President, has put his heart and soul into the first phase of our renovation. Leland is a long-time supporter and facilitator of the arts; he used to run teen music nights at the Fish House in the 80s. His interest and expertise combines perfectly at Reach Arts, where Leland has already created a recording studio in the basement, along with a pool/ping pong room and a comfortable space for people of all ages to hang out. The multifunctional basement space will also serve as our gallery.

Hope for Creativity
While the outside of 89 Burrill is soon to be fixed up, the basement has already been transformed sufficiently to host our first arts group, Hope for Creativity. The charity delivers backpacks full of art supplies to homeless kids, and was founded by Moira Landry, a Swampscott High School graduate who now attends Brandeis University. We can’t think of a better use for our new home, which is why we said YES! when Moira approached us about using the space for HFC’s summer workshop. The Leadership Initiative taught the students how to stretch $10 in $100 by creating bracelets and cards to be sold at the Farmer's Market on July 23. With the proceeds, they'll buy art supplies, and meet back at Reach Arts to stuff art packs. They'll then deliver the packs to shelters in Worcester and Roxbury.

New Display at Town Hall
Talented folks are turning up to help us spread the word, including Gunner McDonald, a former window dresser who whipped up a whimsical-yet-informative display in the glass display case outside Clerk Sue Duplin’s office at Town Hall. The display will stay all summer; next time you’re in, take a moment to see all we have in store for programming. Thanks, Gunner!
Dig this Family!
Board member Barbara Gherzi. daughter Sandy, son-in-law Mark Pocharski, grandsons Nick and Chris, and visiting friend, Chloe, take a well-deserved rest on the bench after clearing the weeds for a brick garden. Barbara believes it's important that we create a beautiful garden for people who are using our accessible ramp to pass by on their way into the building. The Pocharski clan labored in high heat on a sunny Saturday in July to begin their service project for Reach Arts.
