LOWER CAPE OUTREACH COUNCIL, INC.                                                   APRIL 2017
On my mind.

LARRY MARSLAND
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

When people walk through our doors for the first time, they’re often astonished by what they find.   While providing emergency food, clothing and financial assistance have been the hallmarks of this organization for 37 years, we bring much more to the community today: a vibrant jobs center for unemployed and under-employed workers, financial assistance for certificate and other training programs, micro-loans to jump-start new and seasonal small businesses and one-on-one mentoring with people who really care. In our Food to Encourage program, we also teach clients about good nutrition, sometimes introducing them to fresh produce for the first time.

We'll always be there to help those with immediate needs. But now, we help people making the changes they want to see in their lives, not merely reacting to the changes that happen in their lives.  And, we’re doing it together.  Thank you!

In our new newsletter, Reach Out!, you’ll learn more about the programs we offer and read stories about the people we’ve helped. You’ll also discover a myriad of ways you can continue to help impact people’s lives...significantly and permanently.

I'm sure we'll run into each other soon. Until then, reach out to me anytime. Larry

A TINY TAIL OF HOPE.
Lisa needed a service dog. Her long-haired Chihuahua, Eloise, had died.  They had been companions for 16 years, and the loss was overwhelming. Her tiny apartment in Orleans now seemed huge, empty. The emotional pain magnified the debilitating physical pain and isolation she had lived with since a teenager.

It all began with an infection in her mouth.  It descended into a nightmare of surgeries, radiation, popped teeth, dead bone and the eventual loss of her lower jaw. Today, Lisa can barely eat soft food. Talking for long periods of time is difficult.

Her service dog had provided emotional stability and love. But on her limited fixed income, Lisa could not afford the $500 it would take to obtain Eloise’s successor.

Lisa called us for help.  We paid her bills, but not for long—just long enough for her to save the money to adopt her third service dog.  Now she can face the world with something wonderful by her side again--her new miniature dachshund companion, Gabi .
