Join us for Dr. Booker's State of the District address on Friday, April 17, from 8:00-9:00 am. This annual event at the Chapman Cultural Center provides a comprehensive review of the progress in our schools and outlines plans for the coming year. For more information, please call Sally Hammond in the District's Office of Communications at 594-6194.

Testing 1, 2, 3

Three tests - ACT Aspire, the ACT, and ACT WorkKeys - will be administered to students in April. South Carolina is introducing new assessments to measure academic performance for students in grades 3-8 and in grade 11.  Each test was developed by ACT and, together, form a connected system to monitor a student's educational progress from one grade to the next, as well as preparation for college and career. The tests are also designed to indicate gaps in proficiency. More information for families can be found  here

Mobile-Friendly Schools
Next time you wonder about weather implications for District Seven schools or have a question about events and activities on the calendar - look no further than the palm of your hand. "Students and their families tell us they are predominatley using smartphones to acquire and share information," said the district's Chief Communications Officer, Sally Hammond. "Now that all of our school sites are mobile friendly, students, parents and community members will find it easier to get relevant information that is optimized for their devices." Give it a try and let us know what you think!
Vikings Ring in the Spring

The members of the SHS Vikings Football team recently received their championship rings to commemorate their big win as the 2014 AAAA  Division II State Champions. The bezel of the ring reads "Spartanburg Vikings State Champs" and each ring is inscribed with the team's impressive motto, "No Days Off." In January, the SC General Assembly saluted the Vikings with a House Resolution praising their winning season and their 49-28 victory against York. Be on the lookout for a flashy fist-bump from your favorite football players!

Look Who's Joining the Hall of Fame
It's been a year of accolades
and awards for Dr.  Russell Booker, and the good news keeps on coming! Wingate University has announced that Dr. Booker will be inducted into the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Hall of Fame as a distinguished alumnus inductee. With a little help from his wife Sheryl, your trusty team from   7Headlines was able to recover these photos of a lean and mean Booker playing wide receiver for Wingate in 1991. Dr. Booker will be honored in June at the SAC Hall of Fame Banquet in Asheville, NC.

Russell Booker on the run!
With a longtime passion for sports of all kinds, Dr. Booker announced this year that all district middle and high-school coaches will  be required to obtain acc redited certification through the National Federation of State High School Association's, Coach Education Program.   Spartanburg Seven is the  first district in SC to require the certification. The added professional development will provide coaches and their student-athletes with the latest safety precautions and sport-specific protocols. Praising the policy for coaches, the SC Athletic Administrators Association named Dr. Booker their 2015 Superintendent of the Year.
