Fair Chance Licensing Policies Across States
Approximately 1 in 3 American adults have been arrested before they reach the age of 23, creating employment challenges for individuals seeking opportunities requiring licensing. Licensing regulations, including a blanket prohibition on individuals with any criminal convictions and those with "good moral character" clauses, contribute to the inability of a large population segment to find work in certain fields. To address these challenges, some states have begun to implement "fair chance" licensing practices. To learn more about these efforts, click below.
Will the Pandemic Add States to the Nurse Licensure Compact?
During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic some states opted to temporarily waive licensing requirements allowing for traveling nurses to assist with worker shortages. This experience has some states considering ways to maintain access to a national nursing supply. One option, the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC), a multistate agreement that allows nurses the portability of their license between participating states. As of May 2021, 34 states and Guam participate in the compact. Is your state a part of this compact? To learn more about the NLC and the its role in the pandemic, click below.
