Dear Marine parents,

The mission of MarineParents.com, Inc., is to provide support, information, and services to Marines and their family members, and create opportunities for the public to support our troops through the organization's outreach programs.

The Marine Corps now has it's first female infantry officer. This is a huge step towards integrating females into more prominent combat roles in the Marine Corps. You can read the Washington Post article by Dan Lamothe in the first article of the newsletter.

In this newsletter, meet a volunteer and a Team Marine Parents participant, learn about Guy Gabaldon, our Hispanic Heritage Month featured Marine, and the Marine Corps Birthday.

God bless and Semper Fi!
The Marine Corps' First Female Infantry Officer

The Washington Post’s Dan Lamothe reports that the Marine Corps expects to soon have its first female infantry officer.

After completing a grueling 13 week course alongside her male colleagues, she is the first female to do so out of three dozen who have tried. The female lieutenant, whose name has not been disclosed, is expected to lead a platoon of approximately 40 Marines.

Team Marine Parents (TMP) is a group of individuals, generally parents, family and friends of Marines, who participate in athletic events nationwide to support our troops. The mission is to raise funds and awareness of the organization's outreach programs .

Our featured TMP participant this week is Diane Puterbaugh. 2017 marks 10 years that Diane has been running. The Marine Corps Marathon has been on her bucket list for a while, and she's excited to run in our nation's capital.

Featured Volunteer
Keri Carter

Keri found Marine Parents while searching for additional information while her son was going through recruit training. Being familiar with navigating websites and working on a computer in general, she soon found herself helping others locate information that they were seeking, something she finds very rewarding.

Keri was the recipient of The President's Lifetime Volunteer Service Award for her dedicated volunteer service to MarineParents.com. This award is presented to anyone who has dedicated 4,000 hours (the equivalent of two years of full time work) to volunteering over the course of their life.
