Support the Library – Get Involved with the Friends!
Love the library? The Friends of the Ledyard Library are looking for new faces and energy to help us continue supporting Bill and Gales Ferry Libraries through programs, events, and fundraising efforts that benefit the whole community. Whether you’re a longtime resident or new to town, this is a great opportunity to meet neighbors, give back, and make a difference. Please check out our newly designed Facebook page here.
Join us at our next quarterly board meeting on Thursday, January 8th—the Executive Board meets at 6:00 PM, and the General Meeting starts at 7:15 PM. All are welcome!
This month we saw some turn over in our board as Olivia Pearce stepped in as our President and Drue Chappelle stepped in as our publicity chair. They both have been busy working to get our name more visible to increase awareness of all the friends are capable of doing! In addition to the new Facebook page you can pick up a sticker with our new logo at the front desk of either library.
We’re also looking to fill one Member-at-Large position on our Board:
-
Member, assist Membership Chair with outreach and engagement.
- No experience needed, just a willingness to pitch in! 1-2 hr a month time commitment
Remember to visit the ongoing book sales at both libraries - in the meeting room at Bill Library, and the Book Cellar at Gales Ferry Library, each of which are open during normal library hours. All sales go towards support of the library. Books make amazing gifts for the holidays!!
For questions or to join us, contact Olivia Pearce at FOLLpresident@gmail.com. We can’t wait to meet you!

Janice W. Bell Historical Research Room – Ledyard Historical Society
Open archive on Mondays 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and by appointment
Please join us from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7th at the Nathan Lester House & Farm Tool Museum for our annual Yuletide Celebration. Partake of refreshments while enjoying the Ledyard Garden Club’s beautiful seasonal decorations, tours, and a performance by the Ledyard High School Carolers.
Please note: The Bell Room will be closed from Dec. 2nd to Jan. 4th to give the Youth Services Librarian space to sort the Holiday Giving book donations and to give the volunteers time off for the holidays. We will open again on Monday, December 5th, 2026 ready to assist with your genealogical and historical inquiries. The Society and its volunteers wish you all a very merry holiday season!
Our local history books and maps make great gifts and the proceeds directly support our website, archival projects, and care of the Lester House collection. Purchases may be made at both libraries. If you are considering year-end gifts, we welcome donations of any amount. Our mailing address is the Ledyard Historical Society, PO Box 411, Ledyard, CT 06339 or drop them off at the Bill Library to be placed in the Society’s mailbox. We are grateful to our community for their support!
As always, email us with your questions about Ledyard and Gales Ferry history or local families. Donations or loans for digitizing are welcome. Appointments to visit the archive or to make a donation may be obtained by emailing Andrea Buka at research@ledyardhistory.org.
