I love Ledyard Library because...

February is National Library Lover’s month, and we are asking our patrons and community members what they love about the Ledyard Library. Stop by anytime during the month of February to fill out a heart stating what you love about your library.

If you have a little extra love for your library, consider making a donation. All of our programming funding comes from donations, fundraising, and grants.

Transparent Language Online offers a fun, effective, and engaging experience for learners of all levels who want to develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in a foreign language.

With comprehensive courses, supplemental vocabulary, and grammar resources, it stands out as a complete language-learning solution. Featuring over 130 languages, including English for speakers of more than 30 languages, there’s something for everyone.

In addition, Transparent Language Online offer courses in American Sign Language and KidSpeak, a specialized program designed for young language learners.

Best of all, with mobile apps available for iOS and Android, learners can enjoy the flexibility to study at home, in the library, or on the go. Kidspeak is only available on Desktop computers or laptops.

One Book, One Region

Kickoff Program 2025

The Libraries of Southeastern CT invite you to join us for the kickoff of this year's One Book, One Region on Wednesday, January 29, 4:30 pm, at Mitchell College's Red Barn in New London.

The book selection is "Don't Cry For Me," by Daniel Black (also an All CT Reads selection from 2024). We're delighted that Kevin Booker, Jr., will be our guest speaker to help introduce the book to new readers.

Tax Forms Now Available!

Federal 1040 and 1040-SR forms and the instruction booklet are available at both Bill and Gales Ferry.

Staff are able to assist you with printing out Connecticut 1040s or any other Federal or State tax form you require.

Please join us in our first Speed Puzzling Contest fundraiser! See how fast your team of up to four people can finish a 500 piece puzzle. This contest is family friendly and for fun. Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Bill Library. Check in begins at 2:15 p.m., and the contest will start at promptly 2:45 p.m. You'll have no more than two hours for your attempt. Registration is required and details will follow. Payment must be received by February 28. See library newsletters, email, Facebook and signage for more details.

We are in need of an auditor for the Friends 2023-2024 fiscal year. If you or anyone you know might be interested in assisting the Friends, please reach out to Sarah (contact information below). This entails meeting with the Friends Treasurer and a few hours of your time to complete the audit.

Do you have some ideas for improving the Snowflake Festival event next year? If you are interested, please e-mail silentauctionfoll@gmail.com. We will set a convenient date and time with attendees. I highly encourage you to attend if you volunteered. 

Our next meeting is Thursday, April 10, 2025 at Bill Library. The Executive meeting begins at 6:00 pm; the general meeting begins at 7:15. All are welcome at both meetings.

During our April meeting we will be holding our annual elections. We are in need of a President, as this is my last term according to the bylaws. We will also need a Vice President and at least one Member at Large. You are welcome to volunteer for or to nominate someone for any position on the board, and are encouraged to. A nomination form will be posted on the website, or you can email publicityFOLL@gmail.com to nominate yourself or a friend.

Remember to visit the ongoing book sales at both library buildings - in the meeting room at Bill Library, and the Book Cellar at Gales Ferry Library, each of which are open during normal library hours. All sales go towards support of the library.

The Ledyard Historical Society wishes everyone a very happy and healthy 2025! We are back to work helping inquirers with their research and taking donations, including a 1933 Grange scrapbook.

We are looking for a few new volunteers, so if you have experience doing academic or historical research or working with museum, archive, or library collections in any way, we would love to have your help a few hours a month. You can volunteer on your own schedule any time the Bill Library is open. It is worthwhile work and is always interesting! Come join our merry band of volunteers by emailing Andrea with any questions or to set up an appointment to take a look. Teens and adults are welcome!
