Introducing our new Director,

Jessica Franco

Hi everyone! My name is Jessa, and I recently started as the new Director of Ledyard Public Libraries. Having grown up in Ledyard and establishing my family here, I am both excited and honored to serve the same community that helped shape who I am today.

I moved to Ledyard in 2001 and attended Ledyard Center School, long before it was revitalized into the community hub it is now. I graduated from Ledyard High School in 2009 and then went on to Clarion University in Pennsylvania, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Education with a K–12 School Media Specialist Certification. Afterward, I returned home to attend the University of Rhode Island, earning my master’s degree in Library and Information Science in 2015.

One of my educational goals was to work in as many types of libraries as possible, which allowed me to gain a wide range of experience, from K-12 schools to the research libraries at the Mashantucket Museum and Research Center. Ultimately, I fell in love with public libraries, where I have spent the majority of my career. Through these experiences, I have come to believe that libraries are community centers. They are some of the last spaces where you can spend time without the expectation of spending money. They also serve as vital safety nets, providing essential resources and services freely to all. Whether you are looking to learn, discover, create, or connect, your public library is here to support you! 

Joining the team at Ledyard Public Library truly feels like coming home. The welcoming and dedicated staff, along with the vibrant, engaged community, establish the library as a place of belonging. I look forward to getting to know everyone and encourage you to stop by and say hello!

Love the library? The Friends of the Ledyard Library are looking for new faces and energy to help us continue supporting Bill and Gales Ferry Libraries through programs, events, and fundraising efforts that benefit the whole community. Whether you’re a longtime resident or new to town, this is a great opportunity to meet neighbors, give back, and make a difference. Please check out our newly designed Facebook page here.

Join us at our next quarterly board meeting on Thursday, January 8th at Gales Ferry Library—the Executive Board meets at 6:00 PM, and the General Meeting starts at 7:15 PM. All are welcome! We have a few fun and exciting fundraisers to discuss including a Pi Day event and new tote bags!

We're also looking to fill one Member-at-Large position on our Board:

• Member, assist Membership Chair with outreach and engagement

No experience needed, just a willingness to pitch in! 1-2 hr a month time commitment

Remember to visit the ongoing book sales at both libraries - in the meeting room at Bill Library, and the Book Cellar at Gales Ferry Library, each of which are open during normal library hours. All sales go towards support of the library. Start your year off right with a great book!
