Update to Library Hours

Just a reminder: Bill Library is open on Sundays from 1:00-5:00 p.m.

We will be closed on Friday, November 10 and Saturday, November 11 in observance of Veterans' Day.

We will close at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22 and remain closed on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24 in observance of Thanksgiving.

National Native American Heritage Month

We reflect and pay tribute to the rich ancestry and traditions of Native Americans.

We recommend the 2021 Caldecott Medal-winning book Michaela Goade illustrated, We Are Water Protectors, written by Carole Lindstrom. Inspired by the many Indigenous-led movements across North America, We Are Water Protectors issues an urgent rallying cry to safeguard the Earth’s water from harm and corruption.

Expanded Board Book Collection

We are pleased to offer an enhanced, sensory-friendly board book selection in the Children's department at both library buildings. Gales Ferry Library has a newly acquired shelving unit to house all the board books. These purchases were made possible with the American Library Association Libraries Transforming Communities Grant.

Giving Tree: Give a Child a Book

Donate by December 6

It's that time of year! In partnership with Ledyard Social Services, we are sponsoring a Holiday Giving Tree for the children and teens of Ledyard and Gales Ferry. Gift tags hang on trees at Bill Library and Gales Ferry Library. You may purchase a book for a child OR the library will choose and buy a book with a $14.00 donation. The books will be given out at the annual toy drive that benefits local families in need.

Please return an UNWRAPPED book and tag by Wednesday, December 6.

Seed Library News

Thank you to all those involved in supporting the Ledyard Seed Library in its fifth year! Seed donations were received from 5 local businesses, 8 commercial vendors, 7 patrons, and 2 noncommercial groups. We had 32 volunteers who helped sort, clean, package, count, and maintain our seed inventory. Support in other ways included donations for speakers’ fees, supplies, educational brochures, and tech support. Thousands of seed packets were selected by 600+ patrons at both Bill and Gales Ferry. Seeds were also offered at the Town Hall, Ledyard Senior Center/Parks & Recreation, and our local Food Pantry, as well as other seed libraries and community gardens. We appreciate our patrons and community groups who have sent in photos of their gardens and produce, attended our multiple programs, and enthusiastically supported our Seed Library!

See you next year!

Friends of the Ledyard Library

Special library days: November is Picture Book Month! Please stop in for a free picture book from the Gales Ferry Book Cellar or the Bill ongoing book sale and choose one picture book.

Membership: We have a new online form to become a Friends member! You can complete the form and pay here. Try it out! Renewal forms will be sent out soon.

Snowflake Festival: Preparations are underway for our event on Saturday, November 18 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. We are looking for volunteers for setup (11/17 or 11/18) and cleanup (11/18), cashiers (11/18), and helpers to finalize the silent auction and notify the winners (11/18). Please contact Sarah if you can help: 860-464-9538 or FollPresident@gmail.com.

Baskets are out at both library buildings with the majority being at Bill Library. Take some time to look through them and make your bids. Silent Auction items include 86 baskets plus gift cards to area businesses such as haircuts, zip lining, restaurants, oil changes, retail stores, escape rooms, bookstores, groceries, and area attractions. There’s something for everyone and lots of gift-giving potential for the holidays. Silent Auction bidding is ongoing at both buildings until November 18 at 3:00 p.m. Bid early and often! After winners are notified, baskets should be paid for and picked up before December 3. All proceeds benefit the Ledyard Library and its patrons.

Ongoing book sales are at both library buildings - in the meeting room at Bill Library and the Book Cellar at Gales Ferry Library, each open during library hours. All sales go toward the support of the library.
