Update to Library Hours
Both buildings will be closed on Monday, November 11, for Veterans' Day.
Bill Library will be closing early at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27.
Both buildings will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 28 and 29, for Thanksgiving.

The Friends of the Ledyard Public Library will hold their annual Snowflake Festival on Saturday, November 23 at Bill Library. Join the fun with a silent auction, craft/bake sale, and holiday music presented by the Flute Loops from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Silent auction items are currently on display at Bill Library and Gales Ferry Library. Auction items include completed gift baskets, gift cards for local businesses, event tickets, and so much more! | | |

The Ledyard Public Library is thrilled to announce the unveiling of our new Toy Library! We are so grateful to bring this new circulating collection to our community as we realize the importance of play during the early years of childhood development. Not only are we positive this new collection will attract families, children, and teens, to the library, but it will also help ease the economic burden by offering equitable resources. In addition, we believe in the importance of building early literacy skills such as talking, reading, singing, playing, and writing every day. Children experience the world through play while also developing fine motor skills, cognitive concepts, language, and social skills. Teens use play to interact and socialize with their peers, thus strengthening their mental and physical health. This toy collection will enrich the library experience for children, teens, families, and our community as a whole. This Toy Library collection has been created in collaboration with Traveling Toys, Inc. with generous funding from the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut. Thank you!

A selection of print magazines are moving to digital only. There are several popular e-magazines available for free using your library card through the Libby app. Libby is a free app and website that provides access to digital media from public libraries, including ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and streaming services. The 2024 Ledyard Seed Library season opened on February 10 and closed on September 30. Once again, our season was very successful, with patrons visiting the Seed Library at both Bill Library and Gales Ferry Library. We had numerous returning, experienced volunteers, and welcomed new volunteers of all ages! New and established collaborative relationships contributed to our successful year. Stop in to either library to bid on your favorite Snowflake Festival item!
We are still accepting items for the Snowflake Festival! Completed, themed baskets, gift cards, hand crafted items, holiday decor are all needed. Baked goods for the sale will be accepted on Friday, November 22 at Bill Library. Both single serving full batches are popular. Cookies, brownies, pies, and breads are needed. We will offer a small, curated selection of holiday books, DVDs, and CDs, and gift quality books. Warm cider will be served.
Thank you to all who donated candy to the Children's Department for Trunk or Treat! They are grateful to have had enough to hand out at the event, and have a small amount left for upcoming needs such as the ever popular scavenger hunt.
November is Picture Book Month!
The Friends are looking for assistance designing a logo. Please reach out if you can help.
Remember to visit the ongoing book sales at both library buildings - in the meeting room at Bill Library, and the Book Cellar at Gales Ferry Library, each of which are open during normal library hours. All sales go towards support of the library.

If you have an hour or two to spare, please consider helping us keep up with our obituary file. We need someone to mount the newspaper clippings and file them. We will teach you all you need to know. Once trained you are welcome to work on your own schedule during Bill Library’s open hours. Email us if you’d like to take a look.
Donations or loans for digitizing are always welcome. Appointments to visit the archive or to make a donation may be made by emailing Andrea Buka at research@ledyardhistory.org.

Holiday Giving - Give a child a book
Partnership with Ledyard Social Services
Due: Wednesday, December 4
It’s once again Holiday Giving time! Look for the Holiday Giving displays as you enter each library. Register a tag with a library staff member at the front desk and then purchase a book for a child to be given out at the annual Toy Drive. Alternatively, register a tag and donate $14.00 and Mrs. Burt will handle purchasing the book for you. Holiday Giving books are due by Wednesday, December 4.
