Ledyard Public Library is proud to run a Summer Adventure Program where we encourage our participants to log their adventures during the summer! Anything that participants Read, Make, or Explore can be logged. When participants log adventures they pick which prize they would like to enter to win.

Registration is open and you can log as many adventures as you like between June 15 and August 17. What are adventures? You get to decide — the sky is the limit! What did you read? What did you make? Are you exploring new places or things? We want you to log what you are interested in! Each time you enter an adventure you will be entered into a prize drawing. (Two winners for each prize – drawn randomly). You can log your adventures online or with a paper log that you turn in when completed. Summer reading ends August 19.

Calling all adults -- play summer reading bingo to enter into a drawing to earn prizes!

To play, pop into either the Bill Library or the Gales Ferry Library to pick up a bingo card. As you read this summer, mark spaces on the Bingo Card. Each completed space in any order, in any arrangement is an entry into the drawing. More completed spaces = more entries into the drawing = more chance of winning. If you complete the entire card, you get an additional 5 entries into the drawing. There is no minimum number of spaces on the bingo card. If you want to complete one space and hand it in, that’s fine! Return the card to either library by August 31.

We’ll notify winners on Thursday, September 9. Good luck!

Did You Know?

Seed Library News

Our beautiful Rain Garden, lovingly cared for by the Rain Garden Committee of the Ledyard Garden Club, is now bursting with color and early blooms! If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing space to read, meet with friends, get some work done, or just need some fresh air, stop by the Gale F. Bradbury patio at Ledyard Bill Library! The patio features umbrella covered tables, free Wi-Fi, plug-in outlets and is surrounded by the beauty of our rain garden! It is fascinating to observe how the garden changes over the seasons, and we now anxiously await the arrival of buzzing and fluttering pollinators to grace the colorful blooms! Step away from it all and enjoy this soothing and welcoming space.

Calling all Seed Library Users: How are your gardens doing? If your gardens are growing with seeds from the Ledyard Seed Library, please share photos of your gardens! We’d love to see and share your flower, herb and vegetable gardens at all stages of growth, right through to harvest! Please email photos to Laura at lnorcia@ledyardlibrary.org. (Please identify what is in each photo.) Looking forward to seeing your gardens!

Friends of the Ledyard Library

We are preparing for the upcoming Annual Bill Book Sale. The dates will be Saturday, August 31 through Friday, September 6. The sale will be closed on Labor Day, and Member night is Friday, August 30. We will need volunteers to help put the books on the shelves, and to take cashier shifts.

We are also beginning planning for the Snowflake Festival in November. We are in need of hand crafted items and themed baskets for the silent auction, so start crafting now!

Our next meeting will be 7:15 pm Thursday, July 11 at Gales Ferry Library. All are welcome to join us. The meeting usually lasts less than an hour.

Remember to visit the ongoing book sales at both library buildings - in the meeting room at Bill Library, and the Book Cellar at Gales Ferry Library, each of which are open during normal library hours. All sales go towards support of the library.

If you are able to donate Dum Dum Lollipops to Mrs. Burt, they are used as rewards for the very popular scavenger hunt in the children's room.
